BT TV - massive savings over Sky

Options
Yesterday I saved £35 pm (£420 pa) by switching from Sky to BT TV. I realised that so much of what the family watch now is on youtube/amazon/netflix and we hardly watch TV any more.

We had Sky+HD, with the family pack and multiroom and were paying £50pm. Changed to BT's Total Entertainment package (with slightly fewer channels but with the addition of all the BT sport channels), with Extra Room, and UHD capability for £15pm (usually £21).

Thought I'd share the news as I'm pretty chuffed :)

Significantly less channels, though, so not a fair comparison.

Glad you're happy, but you'd probably have been wiser to haggle with Sky rather than switch to another provider with a lesser service..

Without a doubt, BT-TV was the worse TV package I ever had the misfortune of signing up for. I would go so far as to call it a glorified Freeview box, but there was nothing glorious about it.

  • Yes, fewer channels, but none that we watched regularly.

After 9 years with Sky the best they could do to compete was £25 for 12 months and then I'd have to haggle again.

Depends, if you have FTTC (BT Infinity) then BT TV is actually pretty good. Otherwise it's freeview with BT sport over the internet.

However, for how much I used to watch Sky, I certainly don't miss it. What I do enjoy, is the £55 a month better off I am.

For someone who watches the motorsport it's significantly cheaper doing so on BT than Sky. It's a £25 saving a month and I only miss out on the F1 but manage to get everything else as BT Sport cover the most big events.

Sure, so long as you have a strong enough internet. As these hideous\unreliable boxes rely on the internet to show any channels not associated with Freeview.

I've never had any grief with mine in the two years I've had it, at two different flats.

I had NOTHING but grief with mine. That was before they decided to up the contract fee (apparently they can do that). Needless to say the internet channels (of which BTTV rely on for the tv package) was close to non existent. I think out of the 12 Months we were stuck with it, I managed a little over a weeks worth of the channels BT claimed to provide on it.
