hi folks, just wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice.
I plan on reclaiming money from my bank account package but have no paper work to tell me when I actually started paying it.Will this present a problem when I start the ball rolling.
Thank you in advance for help.

To get anything back you need to put a case to the bank why you think it was missold to you.
Does not matter that you do not know what date this started.

Some people find it outrageous that we now have to endure listening to endless recitals of T&Cs on the phone, or even sit through an hour of a video with T&Cs in Branch. Sadly, it is obvious why banks do this now.

Glad to see someone else understands where Im coming from. I received form to complete which I returned 2 weeks ago, strangely I received same form yesterday to complete and return. Makes me wonder if they are trying to catch you out in what you say. Then only this morning I suddenly get a letter telling me a gadget I added back in 2007 is no longer insured as more than 5 yrs old, no details of gadget details or policy no, etc and surely over the years I would have received continuous policy details to say am insured. but nothing Always bought insurance through retailer i.e PCWorld. Prob 3rd party sharing details going on too, but alas I cant remember back to 2007 if I ticked or unticked that little share box, so again I will no doubt be told I am in wrong
  • For anyone wondering if it's worth the effort of making a claim, I would definitely say do it. I submitted a claim to Natwest over my Advantage Gold account, which I was advised to open in order to obtain the best APR for a loan I required. The account paperwork stipulated just that, yet my loan agreement advised that only a Natwest current account was required and my APR rate had already been agreed in advance.

Throw in the mobile phone insurance which I couldn't use at first because they didn't advise you had to register the phone with a 3rd party, and the travel insurance which we were unable to use because (as I found out several years later) my wife's diabetes wasn't covered, I received £1347.32. It's straightforward if you follow MSE's guide - DON'T use one of these claims companies, the time and effort you put in is well worth it.

Did NatWest clarify exactly what was considered misselling?

You mention three separate issues (bogus loan interest rate claim, third party involved in phone insurance and excluded medical condition) but generally only the first of these would be regarded as misselling, and perhaps the third if they were made aware of this but still advised a packaged account. Success stories are always encouraging to hear but they're significantly more useful to others if it's clear specifically what it was that they accepted as misselling.

Saying you need it to get a loan is definitely misselling!

I just have issues with people claiming it when it was for phone insurance or breakdown cover etc when they were told what they were getting in their package.

Yes, it would be, but that's not actually what the above poster was told.

Agreed, the issue of what was said/provided in advance is key, as per an exchange further up this thread!
  • Would you mind letting me know how you claimed? Had lots of companies phone and offer to do it but they want 49% of what I could get back. Not really keen to pay that much and am really struggling to get info on how to do it or who might be decently priced to do it on my behalf.... thanks in advance.

Didn't you declare your wife's diabetes anyway?

We eventually took a packaged account eith HSBC, as it was a good price then. £8 pm and 8% interest, so it fits us about £3pm. I had thought that they wouldn't cover OH, but they did.

We later took, the Premier Account, but HSBC whittled away the benefits, so we've transferred to Nationwide Fkex Plus, which cost us £4 pm. We paid £92 extra for the diabetes and hypertension.
