Paid £6.50/mth for 8 yrs with Barclays, they increased it to 9.50 Dec last year, I have just started a claim, sending form off tomorrow. I was told i needed it to get the overdraft i wanted and could benefit from the 'extra perks' none of which Ive used, I dont drive, only had one holiday abroad since had it and as the other guy, i suffer epilepsy so the insurance wouldnt be valid and only upgraded phone 3 times since, each time insuring with phone provider for few months then cancelling. I actually forgot about the bank insurance benefit and didnt use, so only benefit I thought was paying for was the overdraft. I wasnt offered a free account with an overdraft. They obviously thought, oh shes got a mobile, they knew i didnt drive or go on hols but still recommended for the o/draft. Like you can sit in a bank and read word for word all the small print about every aspect, they want you to sign and be out. They flip through quickly making it sound great. Well I will keep my fingers crossed.

You can say "Please can I take the leaflet away and read it" or utilise cancellation options after purchase.

Additionally, with your mobiles, you've bought cover even though you've already got cover. That's not your bank's fault. Somebody else is mis-selling and you're mis-buying.

While I don't think you should have been sold the account in the first place, you need to start taking some responsibility for your own decisions. As it stands, it sounds like you buy whatever's offered to you by anybody without carrying out any value assessment before purchase or afterwards.

Some people find it outrageous that we now have to endure listening to endless recitals of T&Cs on the phone, or even sit through an hour of a video with T&Cs in Branch. Sadly, it is obvious why banks do this now.

Lots of people are not as bright as us. My late father-in-law had two current accounts with Natwest. One cost him, from memory, about £15 a month. He didn't know about the AA cover included so he was also paying the AA £200 a year, he didn't need any of the other perks. He considered his bank manager a friend, obviously his bank manager considered him a mug.

If he was shown a list of the benefits of the package then it would have been obvious that it included AA cover. If he wasn't shown the list then he would have a claim against the bank.

What about the guy on Martin's show a while back who had epilepsy, was told the travel insurance would cover him if for example he lost his meds on holiday, then it turned out later that he wasn't covered? Surely thats mis-selling?

It sounds like it. As I said, customers need to be shown the benefits accurately. If they aren't then a claim would be appropriate.

Why? Are you worried you might end up buying something else you don't need if people keep talking to you?

No need to be so touchy, I don't think anyone is criticising you personally, not least because nobody knows the full story - you didn't give any clue in your first couple of posts and have subsequently said it was (a) because you were in financial difficulty and (b) because you were told you couldn't have a loan without the packaged account, two different reasons but each sometimes indicative of misselling.

    Harsh but humorous.
