I did a lot of searching and trying out products which mostly seem designed to empty your pockets and provide no benefit at all. I had no success with regain foam so after a long period i stopped it. The caffine shampoos are ineffective also (what they dont tell you is that while their products might help stimulate growth in a test tube nothing is proven in real life). I refuse to try finasteride due to potential side effects and would urge anyone to read up before they go getting a private prescription for it.

Its all very well people saying 'just shave your head' but if you are tall and fairly slim (like me) and dont have the right face for it a shaved head just looks ridiculous.I dont consider myself to be over the top when it comes to what people think but i suppose we all have our own insecurities and when you are not even 30 and you look like a 60 year old it can make you feel quite self conscious!

I've given up on any regrowth products now as they are a waste of time.
I can see both sides of the argument here.

Completely understand why some are emotionally affected by hair loss and feel that a closely-cropped hairstyle doesn't suit them, and I believe I fall into this category. But I also learnt, alas the hard way, that this and acceptance it altogether the best solution.

But each to their own. For example, a hairpiece may be a good option for some and they have become more sophisticated, but bear in mind that this is all that these "revolutionary" hair replacement procedures really are.

The best point you make is "... products which mostly seem designed to empty your pockets" ... but good to hear that you've at least found something that works reasonably well for you.

My brother had MPB. Started at 28. He tried meds and fibres for 10-years then tried a toupee from ukhairsystems.com - that was 4 years ago and is happy.

I used to use the nanogen religiously. But i use it less and less these days. Which is a good sign i suppose as it means im worrying about it less, plus i've got a load of grey hairs so im resigned to the fact that ill probably have to ditch the hair soon (even if i do look like numpty):)
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

Hope he didn't pay more than a few hundred for it?

Usually better to go to a local company who know their trade and offer an expert service, rather than a large franchise company who may charge thousands for what is a cheap import from an Asian sweatshop.

£250 and lasts him a year each. He said some placed celebrity endorsed charge ten times more for the same thing.

Good to hear he wasn't ripped off. Your brother is correct in what he says about some celebrity endorsed "systems", although one wouldn't know from the advertising and spiel that they're merely wearing a hairpiece that has been glued onto their scalp.

Hello,

I am now 27 and starting to get male pattern baldness. Any one got any advice or treatments you have tried to help to reduce the affects?

I bought finasteride from Superdrug but I haven't taken any as we are trying for a baby in September and the side effects may cause some issues.

I realise it's part of getting older. I have already visited my GP and they didn't seem that helpful or sympatehtic but suggested a Thyroid test.

My Dad still has a full head of hair.

You bought finasteride in Superdrug?? I thought it was prescription only in the UK?

Anyway, I'm 39 and suffered MPB for about 6 or 7 years years and use the magic three:

Finasteride
Minoxidil 5%
Nizoral shampoo

I have seen new growth in both my crown and receding hairline over time, and am happy with it
