Male pattern baldness advice

There are a great many advantages to having a wipe-clean head. Personally I have never found any disadvantages.
Embrace it and have fun!0 -
What is it that particularly bothers you about going bald? Many men start to lose their hair in their 20's, my OH was about 23 when it started thinning. He knew he didn't want the 'horseshoe' look as it's quite ageing, so shaved it all off when he was about 27. Never had any hair since.
It does mean I can spend a bit more on getting mine cut and coloured though as his costs nothing! :rotfl:Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame

Embrace it.
I started going bald at 18. It took me until 21 to be brave enough to cut it short. Started with a #4, then slowly went shorter and shorter. Now I razor it once a week, so have no hair at all.
In true MSE style, I have saved a fortune on haircuts.0 -
There's some weak evidence showing Nizoral shampoo may be helpful in preventing further hair loss.0

I did recently hear of something which is proven to be effective at treating hair loss. I wish there was something similar for memory as I need it more than I need anything for my hair which tends to grow like crazy. I am sorry that I cannot remember the details but it might give you something to investigate. If you are interested it would be worth searching on a research site such as the one in my link, for research on the subject to make sure that it is legitimate. [EDIT] The link below is where I found the items listed later in my post.

I think it was a radio advert, I don't watch TV so it could not of been on TV. It said that it was something which is rubbed into the scalp which was claimed to be proven to counter hair loss.
A search brings up Minoxidil with brand names such as Rogaine & Theroxidil.
You should be able to investigate from here.
With regard to biotin, I find it helpful for the skin as it tends to decrease dryness and also of the hair by a similar method, the hair is lubricated by oil from the skin and reducing dryness does tend to also affect the hair. My hair has always grown like crazy so I do not know whether it is having any effect in that aspect.......I hope not as I do not want it cut any more frequently.0 -
My hair started thinning at 20. By 25 it was mostly gone on top and hasn't got any worse. I bought a set of Wahl clippers about 15 years ago for less than £20 which are still going strong, and have saved an absolute fortune and the associated inconvenience of barber appointments ever since. I personally favour the #2 length rather than the #1 but that may be because I have quite light coloured hair.
If it's genetic it's going to go unless some real miracle cure is invented. In the meantime don't do anything to try and disguise it. Shave it short and be glad you live in an age where that is a perfectly acceptable style and fashion choice. I've sat staring at people with ridiculous arrangements on top of their head. If they were just bald no-one would have batted an eyelid! :-P• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

- they are better at slowing or stopping hair loss rather than reversing it
- they're more effective on the crown and not so much on the hairline
- reported hair regrowth is a bit of bum-fluff rather than proper strands0 -

I am 28 and have quite bad MPB. It started a few years back and now i am left with a very large bald patch on my crown (the size of my palm) and the hairline receding back quite significantly.
I did a lot of searching and trying out products which mostly seem designed to empty your pockets and provide no benefit at all. I had no success with regain foam so after a long period i stopped it. The caffine shampoos are ineffective also (what they dont tell you is that while their products might help stimulate growth in a test tube nothing is proven in real life). I refuse to try finasteride due to potential side effects and would urge anyone to read up before they go getting a private prescription for it.
Its all very well people saying 'just shave your head' but if you are tall and fairly slim (like me) and dont have the right face for it a shaved head just looks ridiculous.I dont consider myself to be over the top when it comes to what people think but i suppose we all have our own insecurities and when you are not even 30 and you look like a 60 year old it can make you feel quite self conscious!
I've given up on any regrowth products now as they are a waste of time.
The one product i have been very pleased with is the nanogen fibres, the mrs sprinkles the fibres on for me, blends it all in and sprays with the waterproof spray. Yes its a cover up but realistically thats all you can do for MPBEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0
