But people do wave the card around.:D

I often go in Pret in London, there are loads, and lots of the time, there will be some bloke at the counter, waving the card at the same level as his head, "pay by card" "I will pay by card". Most of the time, its an Amex, Gold or Silver, never seen a black one.

I did see a Lloyds premier, once. Never seen a real rich man's bank card, Adam and co and so on. Even if I were rich, I would not wave the card, any card design that indicates your salary, I tend to avoid. I believe Alan Sugar banks with Lloyds, so there you go.

Its nice to have such a card, to stick in the face of stuck up people that might look down on you in some shops, which I have done in the past, its lovely to see their face when they look as if they have been slapped.:rotfl: Even if I'm not rich, I like to crush their snobbiness.

Was thinking of the Gold one also as the first year is fee free, although after that it goes up to a whopping £140 per year!
If you threaten to leave, they sometimes waive the renewal fee or decrease it. It depends how much you put through though so if you only put through £2,000 a month then they'll more than likely let you go without a fuss but if you put through £20,000 a month then they'll more likely waive the fee or try and sell you a different card... Especially as £20,000 a month would get you the Cent.

    I won't bother then, I think I put about £400 a month through it.:D

You put through roughly £4,800 a year which earns you 4,800 MR (for majority of purchases at 1 MR per £1 spent) valued at 1p per point (if used wisely) makes your return £48 and then you're paying £140 per year with a net loss of £92. Why would you keep the card?

my main spending card is the Amex Cashback credit card. have never had a chargecard. my brother has a green one for work expenses, and that, design-wise, is the original.
if i could choose a card design that'd be the one.. but i don't want to pay a fee for the privilege;)

    This.

Many people seem to like the MR program and other fringe benefits that the charge cards offer (for a fee). But personally I have enough Avios from other sources so I'd much rather take the 1.25% in cash that the credit card offers. Especially as my new Curve card (when it arrives) means that I should be able to use my Amex pretty much anywhere... ;)

    I don't have it.

Well thank you so much for offering your opinion, now, how much will that item that I couldn't possibly live without be on your dubious website?

Thanks for all your replies again.

Don't think I'd ever spend enough to justify the Gold card - would only be around £100 per month that I'd be putting on it. With regard to the original, sounds more justifiable. Think I'd be happy to pay the annual fee once and then threaten to leave at renewal to see if they'd waive it.

    guys!
