Second Hand Car issue
Bought a second hand car (8 years old) 10 days ago for £6k.
Checked it thoroughly. Owner had bought it new and was buying an identical car new again, hence selling this one.
Just 2 months ago he had paid £600 to get something fixed on it at main dealer.
So now same fault has occured again. Clearly it was not fixed properly. Previous owner was helpful and annoyed to have paid so much money for it to fail again.
Where do we stand getting it repaired? Would any warranty be with the previous owner?

What is 'it' - the car and the fault ?
Is there any supporting paperwork for the repair which outlines warranty ?0 -
You're in the hands of the owner. If he's got supporting invoices and it was done at a reputable garage, they should provide him with a 12 month warranty for the parts at least. The contract however is with the previous owner and the repair in garage. So if you want it fixed for free, he would have to take it back to the garage and see what they say.0

'It' is a Mercedes, and the work was done by the main dealer it was bought new from. The fault is something to do with the ignition (was too tired to listen to hubby's technical explanation) so it won't start, or requires 10 attempts to start it.

Anything that needs doing to the car will be chargable anyway, he might get the £600 back though. Maybe the owner can get the car booked in for you and then you can deal with the dealer.0

Hmmmm. 'Expensive' car, well into it's middle age with a costly fault that a main dealer has failed to fix.......

There will be a warranty on the work they did last time. But what if the problem doesn't lie with the work they did last time? What if it's a problem elsewhere, and they merely addressed a symptom?

Bought 10 days ago! It is a very specific one, as we have 3 kids in car seats and 2 dogs, so needed something BIG!!
DH is very mechanically minded, so is quite sure it is the same issue. The other two similar problems would be a much cheaper fix apparently.
It is just frustrating that this problem should have been sorted but clearly isn't. The dealer is 90 mins drive away and DH has no holiday left, so am anticipating this could be quite a pain!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')

It's not you or your husband that has to take the car back to Merc, it's the previous owner. He paid Merc to fix the problem / do the work. The contract is between him and them. You have no role in the contract so I doubt they'll entertain any claim from you.0
