Your life doesn't get any easier does it? I hope you make it up with your husband today and perhaps you can have a long talk together and find out what he really wants to do, and whether you would be prepared to go along with it.
The decision has been made. Hubby isn't even going to see the week. He's on his way home. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hester That's a huge decision, I hope it's taken a weight off your mind and you're feeling OK about it xx
The rat poison is doing it's job, we've found one dead rat and the neighbour has found two. I know there are definitely at least another three and I assume there's lots more. They've been seen in a garden three houses up on the other side of us, so they're moving between at least six gardens – eleven if they're going into the gardens over the back of us too, which my neighbour thinks they are. No-one has found any nests yet, I know what to look for but I'm not sure some of the others do - how do I get myself into the other gardens? Everything I think of sounds like I'll be saying “you don't have a clue what you're talking about, let me in and I'll sort it”
The wardrobe is sorted, I've kept a couple of shirts because I like the material, they can go in my craft drawer. If I can't find a use for them in the next few weeks I'll throw them out. I've removed buttons and zips from other things that are now too big for me, they're in my sewing box.
Strange weather yesterday, sun then rain then hail, overcast for a while, more hail then sunshine. I had the heating on low for most of the day, at 4pm it was suddenly too hot and I had to open the windows. The heating's back on this morning, I feel so cold.
Today I need to attack the chest of drawers in the lounge, it's not too bad but I've been dreading doing it for some reason

Morning everyone,
Hester hope that coming to a decision gives you some semblance of peace of mind and that all works out for you and yours x
Cold and bright here, like Jackie we had a bit of everything yesterday and boy was it cold.
Today is my DOH's birthday, we are off into Cambridge for lunch and pressie buying. He wants some new trainers so will have a good look around for those, If it stays bright will take a walk around the backs and enjoy the sights of Kkngs College etc.
Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks x0 -
Good luck Hester!
We live in a one bed flat...I have a veg bed in someone elses garden and stuff on the balcony and i fit a surprising amount of craft materials in the cupboards....the most difficult thing is books. (I previously had 4 allotments and two thousand books).
I recommend a very good quality sofa bed for visitors and days when one of you is ill and an extendable dining room table with folding extra chairs for when family come over or you want to cut out a dress.0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))it's a cold morning here, sun is out but sleet is the forecast. We are going to Woodbridge this morning.
Hester, we downsized in 2007 when we moved into sheltered housing, for us it was not the answer, but I had a Corner in the bedroom with my machine and shelves on the wall which held my boxes of fabric. I was determined I was not going to give up my quilting.
May be your husband will be able to get or share an allotment so he can carry on with his gardening. I guess that you have both had enough of the work problems. Sometimes you just have to do what's right for the two of you,b****r what any one else thinks. Money is not everything, you will cope as you have in the past. Take care both of you. When I get home I will pm you.0 -
Hi everyone,
NMLC, sorry to hear your news, I hope it's peaceful.
Hester, as others have said, it may be possible to get an allotment to grow veg and you may have to downsize some of your stash but I would have thought you'd at least be able to continue with your crochet.
I just wanted to say those things and now must run because I'm off to Dunelm to get some calico.
have a good day.0 -
Hester
If downsizing will help you save your health and sanity then go for it pet. Maybe DH could help someone who cannot manage their garden and in return get to plant stuff and share it. You might be able to keep some of the less bulky craft things and still feel like "you" or have an informal small store area at a friend or relative.
All the climbing up and down into the very tall builders lorry yesterday has "locked my legs" and left me with a walk reminiscent of Max Wall. Worth it as I got just what I wanted and a really good discount as well. Can't wait for the downstairs bathroom to be finished. After that I need to get a new suite and shower bath upstairs for the family and a new kitchen ordered to make better use of the space.
Had bacon, egg and some tea and browsing on here out of the way of building work.
Judi
This may not be much comfort but he does seem to be well thought of and not have trouble getting jobs which is something.

Good morning everyone. It's chilly here but bright and clear in the sky. Hopefully I will be able to get some washing on the line.
Just had a quick look at the posts and there seems to be quite a few people with life changing decisions going on.
Hester I hope your decision brings you some relief, although moving in itself is a massive pressure. My sister ( also in Reading) had to move and sell her house. It was very emotional but now she is comfortable in her new home and is a lot more settled. Properties in Reading go for really good prices but I realise to stay there you have to pay a good price for the next property.
Judi wow! what are your feelings to that ? I don't know what led up to your husband quitting his job but I do hope everything is ok for you and your family.
Nmlc hugs to you.
Life is a funny old thing. Things change in a blink of an eye and when we think we are going one way, something happens to make us change direction. I myself am doing completely different things now compared to a year ago. As long as we are with the ones we love, in a safe warm home , with enough food and clothes, then I think we should be content. Contentment is a wonderful state. It's the real but little things in life that usually make us content. It's the little things that are really the big things. Hugs to all going through challenging times.
Today I will be doing a bit of tidying up, de cluttering and cleaning. Not sure what's for dinner but I will scour the other threads for ideas.
I hope you all have a good day. Xx“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0
