Thank you Gloomendoom, but I'm not too keen on the idea of diets in that way.
I think things like Slim Fast, Atkins, 5:2, meal replacement shakes and pills etc are all a complete con and waste of money.
I'm more keen on the idea of calories in calories out. Burning more than I consume. Maintaining a calorie deficit, but not too much so that I end up starving myself.
The best way I've found to reduce my calorie intake while still being able to eat as much as I like is to swap the rubbish I normally eat for healthy options that are naturally lower in calories and will have much, much more vitamins, minerals and nutrients in them.0 -

With respect, I think you need to do more research. How on earth can the 5:2 diet be a con and a waste of money? It costs nothing. In fact, it actually saves you money because you eat less. It isn't a con, because by eating fewer calories over the course of the week than your body actually needs, you lose weight. It's basic physics. The energy you use has to come from somewhere.0 -
Sorry Gloomendoom, I'm just going on things I've heard.
I shall go and clue myself up now!0 -
One of the real issues with diets in my opinion is that people on them spend so much time thinking about food. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Yeah, I've always thought that too theoretica.
As of Monday morning I'm going to be taking the approach of making small changes every so often. The first one being swapping all the things I drink right now for water and water only, apart from a cup of green tea(no milk, no sugar) with my breakfast in the mornings.
Then I will start to slowly swap out the rubbish I eat for foods that are as unprocessed as possible. So instead of having a cheeseburger from mcdonalds, I'll have a steak with some potatoes and other cooked veg(I won't - steak is too expensive! :rotfl: But you get the idea)0 -

Thanks for this suggestion. I'm on day 2 of the 5 day challenge and it is super. Just what I was looking for :j:j:j:j0 -
Check out youtube exercise videos. Honestly, some of them are really fun and get your heart racing and your body sweating. And, gym fees!0

Good luck on your objectives, your attitude and approach sounds good.
However, why do you need to "work on" not drinking Monster drinks. Its really very simple, just dont drink them.
Nutrition is huge when it comes to weight loss. I strongly advise preparing your own meals if thats the only way you can eat healthy.0 -

Op is totally correct to avoid anything other than a standard eating plan consisting of healthy foods.
Whilst the 5:2 might not cost anything extra it is not a long term solution.
The key to long term weight loss is to learn about good nutrition and form habits that are sustainable . Not for 2 months or two years, but the rest of your life.0 -
Thank you for your input parking_question_chap.
I think I have a slight addiction to the energy drinks! So rather than going cold turkey(like an alcoholic or a drug addict would, for instance) I'm going to phase them out over a period of time.0
