  • Thanks for all the tips guys :)

The person who said about how they used the lampposts and alternated between running and walking between each one and built up - the route I'm thinking of taking is well lit so I should be able to do this too :)

I do use myfitnesspal just to get into the habit of logging food right now(but I will use more of it's features as I progress). The funny thing is over the last 3 days after I've logged all the meals each day it's been telling me I'm not eating enough?! Well, I feel full after the meals and for a good while after, I'm not going to bed hungry etc. so I don't quite understand that :rotfl:

    That's a good point cbrown.

I will start getting out next week, just walking to begin with so i can formulate the route properly, then as my 3 weeks off starts not this weekend but next, I'll start jogging and work my way up to running to build up my strength without work getting in the way :)

As others have suggested; have a browse around YouTube.

There are plenty of options on there, which don't incur cost.

Some use dumbbells but a lot just use bodyweight.

They are also organised into different length routines, so you can choose from 10 minute workouts through to 40 minute + should you desire.

I like the ones from Autumn Calabrese; gymra; and Bodyfit by Amy; but there are plenty of others.

Running is great, but I'd say the key is to find something which fits in with you.
  • Thank you kabayiri :)

I will check out those 3 people you mentioned on YouTube, and look at others through the suggestions :)

I'd recommend fitnessblender.com for exercise videos, they have a channel on youtube as well.

It's always frozen microwave meals such as fish pies, curries etc or something else from the freezer that only requires 20 minutes in the oven - pizza and chips, sausages and chips, chicken nuggets and chips, stuff like that

Hi Gemma. Your mum is poisoning you, that is rubbish food. Ask her to reduce your board money so you can buy your own, then eat tons of veg and salad. Healthy food is not expensive.

I am a lot older than you and I am doing the walk 1000 miles in one year challenge, which sounds a lot but isn't. Break it down to 2.73 miles a day. I have a route round my village, checked the mileage on bikehike.co.uk I walk 3 miles every day at a fast pace without stopping, which takes 50 minutes. It's important to walk fast, no strolling. I do a little jogging as well, but I don't want to beggar my knees up at my age. I started on Jan 1st and I'm up to 323 miles now. This is walking on top of my normal day, I set time aside to do it.

Cut out the fizzy sugary drinks, cut out the convenience food. Reduce your intake of sweets, crisps, chocolate, alcohol, cakes, biscuits, to the bare minimum, they are treats not food.

Go for it, start now, don't put it off any longer. Best of luck.

When I lived I lived in a city, I started out running/jogging to one lamp post and walking to the next, then running to the next one etc. As I got fitter, I would run two lamp posts and walk one, gradually increasing the number of lamp posts run between walks until I managed to run the whole route without stopping.

This is exactly how I learnt to run! I do half marathons now!

I live at home with my parents, always have done.

Out of interest what sort of age are we talking about? 20's? 30's? 40's?

I'd say the first thing you need to do is sort out your diet. Forget any sort of exercise at the moment beyond more walking. Going on a diet and starting and exercise regime at the same time is a recipe for failure if your currently overweight and unfit.

Firstly I'd say learn to cook and if you can already remove ALL processed foods from your diet and start making everything from scratch. That might seem daunting but its just about getting into the right mindset and routine. You'll end up saving money AND eating more healthily by avoiding all the hidden sugar and fat etc.

After maybe a month or so you can start the C25k as others have suggested.

    good luck.
  • I will be 26 this year, so I'm not too old for change :o

Yeah i want to try and change my diet as best i can as I've heard a lot about how what you put in affects you so much and in so many different ways :(

I want to be able to have kids in the first place, i want to be there to see them grow up, and be a good role model for them :o
