How to stop people getting into garden

We had a similar problem with children damaging the fence and plants climbing over to get the ball back, rather than walk round and knock on the door to ask for it back.
I spoke to the police who said that putting glass or spikes or anything that will break skin is not recommended. Although people should not be climbing over the fence, they can sue you for injury as you have a duty to protect people coming onto your propery whether they are invited or not. Policeman agreed it's a stupid rule, but that's how the law stands.
He suggested the anti vandal paint, and said the worst that could happen would be that Little Johnny's Dad might complain and demand damages because he damaged his designer top in the paint, but then he said I could put a counter claim in for the damage to my property
It seems to have worked and we haven't had any children climbing into our garden for a while now.
If you do use it, buy a very cheap paint brush to apply it with, then throw the brush away when you've finished. It's virtually impossible to clean the brush afterwards. Here I go again on my own....0 -
Hi thanks for the ideas my husband did want to put up carpet tacks on fence or barbed wire but I was concerned that it wasn't legal and that knowing my luck we would be sued! I think I will try the prikka strip if I can find it and the alarm we already have a security light but doesn't seem to deter them.
Thanks to everyone for help if none of these work think I will just demolish the shed!!!0 -
Hi just wondering if anyone knows where I can get prikka strip?0

You don't have to grow the prickly plant to the top of the fence - get some good strips from your garden or friendly neighbour and staple into your fence in thick layers. Something with really vicious spikes.
If the bu**ers do manage to climb in, make a ha-ha at the foot of the fence and plant in with more spikey plants and nettles so that they fall into a greater depth of briars than they expected. These plants are also good for the environment as they encourage bio-diversity, plus you get blackberries from briars (and very fast-growing).0 -

The link works just fine if you click on it
It's just that the forum shortens it so it's easier to view on the post."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
