    Hi everyone,

Dumpling, I am so sorry your friend made you feel so awful, I know how soul destroying it is when you have tried to lose weight and nothing seems to work. People who haven't been there often seem to think it's a matter of willpower but it truly isn't, so many factors come into play. Well done for making yourself go to Slimming World but don't beat yourself up if you can't face it, if you're like me being miserable makes you want to eat.

There's not a lot to report here. DD suggested my head and sinus problems could be hayfever, which is probably right - it takes me by surprise every year, duh.

I need to think of something to make for dinner - we had beef and vegetable soup last night which was filling and delicious. I used to put potato in it but now I use pearl barley which thickens and makes it a bit more substantial. But that was the second night in a row for soup so we must have something else tonight.

    Have a good day.

Dumpling honey take it one day at a time, and today, an hour at a time No matter how you are feeling think of the lovely ladies who are going to the same place as you and you are all in the same boat.

OK so you are overweight ,there are a few of us on here perhaps who are also more than they should be ,me included.:) When I decided to take myself in hand, my GP bless him said he would refer me to the practice nurse who was also a dietician. She was lovely, and very helpful (and also a little overweight :):))

We made doable goals, not get ten stones off in 6 weeks :) but she said if I managed a pound to a pound and a half a week, and ate sensibly it would gradually come off.

It didn't go on quickly, and it sure as hell didn't come off quickly either I still have a good three to four + stones to shift but because I am taking my time its gradually going.

I feel so much better for it and my joints are better as well.

Negativity from anyone won't help, you need gentle support and kindness. I have shifted over two and a bit stone in the past year and around 13 lbs since January. I am careful what and when I eat and know my 'triggers' (usually cheese :):):)) But you can do it, and ignore folk who try to frighten you into dieting.

I don't 'diet' I just eat differently to what I used to
You may go and pal up with someone who feels just as frightened and vulnerable as you do, and together you may form a last friendship that will help you both.

Good luck and do go the hardest thing in anything new is that step through the door, but what a world could be opening up for you.

Dear Dumpling I imagine you are now on your way to your slimming world meeting so I hope all goes well and you find it will be helpful .
I totally understand the struggle you have leaving the house and engaging with the world . I have watched my youngest face that every day for nearly twenty years . Anti-anxiety meds have helped her a great deal but the best thing has been a wonderful gp and good counselling , a lot of cbt but also dbt which helped her a lot . I would try to speak to your gp face to face . If possible take your husband along . My daughter has at times found it best to write a full account of how she is feeling and the gp can then deal with the problems .
I know you have a support worker but am unsure if you are able to discuss these feelings with her . At the end of the day we only have one life and it sounds as if there should be a proper plan which includes both your physical and mh problems . Things should not be treated in isolation but as a whole .
Regarding your friend you cannot just avoid her , she sounds a good friend who is struggling herself at the moment . It is a big ask but could you find the couage and words to explain that you know she didn't intend to upset you but you are trying hard to move forward and you will support her if she will support you .
In the few months I have been posting on the threads I have watched you moving forward and it has made me happy to see how much happier you seem after each challenge . Talk to your husband and fight together for joined up treatment , you have a right to it x
Sorry for the epistle ! I am off to stand with the junior doctors for a couple of hours - wearing my warmest clothes as it is freezing and very windy .
    Take care all Polly

There but for fortune go you and I.
  • Hi guys,
Today I had a lecture this morning which I missed. There was a crash on M62 and the traffic queues of people trying to get onto the motorway stretched for 2 miles! There was little movement after half an hour so I gave up and came home to the news that I have failed an essay :( I can resit it once but it will be capped at 40%. So all in all not a good day.

    Afternoon all.

Dumpling ((((hugs)))). You could do without friends like her around you. Mother used to go on to me as a child about my weight. I remember her putting me on a diet at primary school. The more she went on about my weight, the more i wanted to eat to comfort myself. She used to buy treats for my brother and hide them from me. Ive always been a bit of a comfort eater. Hubby came back from working away on Friday and one of the first things he said was "hows the diet gone?". Well if it had gone really well he would have been able to tell wouldnt he? Pass me a sandwich! :rotfl: Ive decided i would like to drop a dress size for Christmas. I know ive got plenty of time but i know if i lose weight quickly i put it back on twice as fast.

Back to this morning. A quick visit to my GP's surgery to sort out my sons repeat prescription. Seems its not as straightforward as i'd hoped.

Oh and hubby has handed his notice in at work which means both he and my son are out of work from Friday.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

  • Oh Dumpling I wished we lived closer. There is absolutely no need to scold someone who needs to lose weight, we do that to ourselves often enough. Unfortunately that makes us eat more. What we need is someone or something to motivate us.

Now I know you have your DDs wedding to look forward to. Do you know what kind of outfit you want to wear, or what colour?. Spend some time looking on line. We don't just have to rely on E*ans any more, Google "outfits for larger ladies" and any number of companies will come up. If you can see in your minds eye an outfit you like it might motivate you. Ask your girls to be involved in choosing colours for you, they might come up with a few weird and wonderful ideas, but on the whole they will know what suits you.

If you set yourself a target, of say 1 stone, by the time of the wedding you will have something to aim for and will be determined .

Please be kind to yourself, encourage yourself, and ask the family to help you. I think you will find that when asked family will step up to the metal. Try not to buy food that you know will tempt you, tell the family if they want treats they will need to shop for themselves. I think they will understand how important it is to you and of course your health

Young people can be very knowledgeable. about health and causes these days, and try to work together to make interesting meals for the whole family.

Good luck, lovely lady, and please PM me if you need any help.

    Love

    Good afternoon everyone :hello:

Well I'm back :D. The meeting went really well, the consultant was lovely and so encouraging. The meeting was very busy although she assured me it was the quieter of the two. I met a lovely young lady who was starting today like me and she was really helpful and chatty. There were three little babies there as well with their mums and they were gorgeous.

I have set an interim target of 2 stone and we will see how it goes. I am feeling very positive and hopeful that I will be able to follow the plan.

As regards the wedding outfit, I have already chosen and bought a lovely maxi dress with butterflies all over it. It fits where it touches if you know what I mean but with a bit of weight gone I will be more comfortable in it. I haven't worn a dress for around 16 years so it will be a complete change for me. I am excited and terrified about being Mother of the Bride but I will cross that bridge when it comes to it.

Thank you all for your lovely advice and interest in me and how I am doing. I feel so grateful to have you as my virtual friends xxx
  • You are very welcome Dumpling, I am glad the meeting went well.

    Onwards and Upwards now

    Hugs

  • Good Afternoon everyone, It's been snowing, the first time I didn't believe it as I was in town and thought what was falling was big rain until I looked at my coat but this afternoon walking the dogs we had a real heavy shower, poor Cookie who is a black dog looked like a reverse Dalmatian with white spots, she was trying to catch the flakes which were perfect spheres but NOT hail then as quickly as it had begun it was gone and we were back to warm sun and blue sky, can't be bored with the UK weather can you?

Hope you're all having a good day, Lyn xxx.

Afternoon everyone from my training course accommodation. The good news is that there's free wifi. The less good news is that I'm in a single bed in a room with three of them (no other bodies, thankfully) and a shower that I'm not confident of fitting into! Dumpling, I know exactly how you feel.

After reading the thread I was concerned about you Dumpling, so it was lovely to read your positive post. As for your unhelpful friend, she needs to realise and understand your feelings too. You achieve so much on your day to day life and all without going outside, it's astounding. I hope you can lift yourself up and have much better days.

The day wasn't so bad, at least not as awful as I expected. The venue is a wonderful old, and huge, house with extensive grounds. Of course, as soon as I stepped outside to enjoy a walk the rain / sleet started. There's no TV or tea / coffee in the room so I shall drink water and read my book. I had to buy three yesterday :o

I bid you all a very good evening.
