This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning All
Arrived at work yesterday to find an email asking me to meet with management for a 'review' on Thursday, oh joy a week of worry. On top of all the stress and worry over hubby's reshuffle.
I also had a visit from DS with his boss's dog Clio, I'm looking after her from Wednesday until Monday or Tuesday. She is gorgeous and very much a lap dog, so lots of cuddles needed I think .
It's DD's birthday soon, so do I buy her something to wear or chocolates or flowers? Nope, I've ordered her a skip, believe it or not she is very grateful.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning and thank you, Hester, for the thread.
I was at my uncle's funeral yesterday and though sad, it was a celebration of his life, which was a long and full one. Good to see my extended family too as that is not something that happens very often. So loads of hugs and chatting.
I was dog-tired when I got back, so I ate the delicious meal that the mister had prepared and then started to fall asleep on the sofa so went to bed early and was asleep (properly, in my bef) by 9.30.
Back to work today, and this is my short week so fingers crossed that this works out as recent weeks have been all over the place.
Went to bed listening to sleet, it is dry now but very cold, odd weather for almost May.
Birds having a right old sing now.
Have good days, all.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone
HH - thanks for starting us off, hope the work meeting is ok x
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, sky reasonably clear, we've had a bit of frost and there's a chilly breeze. Washing ready to go on the line shortly.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was pasta, tonight we have fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - hairdresser is coming over so needed something I can shove in the oven quickly as she's finishing off.
Work yesterday wasn't horrendously busy, but we had times where we were manic then 30 minutes later it was dead. Not helped by customers not using the payment machines correctly and one breaking down which then was out of use and supervisor needed to take it to bits to sort out the problem, fortunately she was able to sort it and machine now working again, but of course whilst it wasn't working it created a backlog and moaning customers.
Had a text late last night from ill person's immediate family saying they had been to visit and ill person very much the same as when we visited Saturday, very sleepy dopey and groggy. They were hoping to get to speak to consultant for an update on what his view is and what's going to happen going forward. Will see if I can contact them later.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Thanks for the thread HH
After my eventful day yesterday I off to Larbert for three days of 'training'. No idea of food or even accommodation so it'll be a surprise. No idea if there's even wifi.
It feels very strange waking up to the noise of traffic here, it doesn't keep me awake or disturb my sleep, it's just odd.
Happy Tuesday everyone.0 -
Morning All
Dry so far, yesterday saw brilliant sunshine, rain, hail and sleet with a wind that would cut you in two! I have washing to put out but not much and should be in at a decent hour this evening to bring it in.
Had a really busy day at work but met friends on the way home and had a lovely curry, we put the world to rights and had a good chat.
Must be more productive tonight, I have loads of things to be done but not much motivation at the moment. Chicken something for tea.
Have a good Tuesday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Nice bright day here off to work for me might be a bit busier due to the sun shining, although its still very cold.
Something with mince for dinner tonight might do a chilli, not had that for a while.
Need to do a wash tonight and have a sweep through, will out the dw on when I get back from work too.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Bright here but bitterly cold, there is talk of wintery showers, bbrr.
Work was busy yesterday and expect the same today but at least it makes the day go quickly. Need to pop into the vets on the way home and pay Rosie dogs bill. May and June are always horrendous bill wise as have car, contents and pet insurances to find, as well as four family birthdays  just hope have saved enough in my virtual pots to clear it all down!
It's my DOH birthday tomorrow, he wants a new pair of trainers so will go into Cambridge and see if can find them there.
Hester hugs re your job review, hopefully will be just that.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Good morning everyone
I am sat here with my tummy in knots as I have decided to go out today and join the happy clappers at Slimming World this morning. My eldest daughter's wedding is getting nearer and nearer and I need to get some more weight off and I am struggling trying to do it on my own. I've already been in floods of tears about leaving the house but I am forcing myself to go.
I didn't get much sleep last night but while I was up I remembered to get some mince out to make a bolognese bake for tea. It doesn't take too long to make so I can grab a nap when I come back home.
Other than that, the washing machine and dishwasher are on doing their thing and I will be jumping in the shower and getting dressed in a minute. I'm too nervous to eat breakfast but will have time for a second cup of tea.
I had a dreadful visit from my friend yesterday, at one point she started sobbing melodramatically declaring that if I died she would kill herself! I am not planning on dieing anytime soon and told her that but then she went on and on about my weight and how unfit I am. I understand that she is ill herself at the moment but it left me feeling like rubbish. My poor hubby let me offload to him when he came home from work and wants to ban her from the house but I can't do that. When she is stable she is the loveliest most generous friend you could have and I don't want to hurt her.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning all, thank you Hester once again.
I haven't much to report today, but I have just read Dumpling's post and felt I needed to reply.
Please, please don't beat yourself up about your weight. I know you have struggled with several diets, but at the end of the day it is up to you as to whether you want to lose weight or are you content as you are.
I am sure your friend is lovely when she is well, but you don't need someone around you who thinks you will die because you are overweight.
I know you are diabetic like myself, and I just want to tell you I feel so well when my diabetes is controlled, and awful when it isn't.
Can you bring yourself to ask your GP to refer you to a dietician or see the Practice Nurse. I know you have a problem leaving your home, but if you could see the Nurse once a week I am sure you would find it helpful. Why would you spend money going to a slimming club and suffer the embarrassment if you think you have put on weight, so then you don't go.
I know your Husband is very supportive, but can you get the girls to help you. One of your girls likes cooking I think, can you ask her to do some research into healthy meals for diabetics, meals which all of you can eat. The main thing is to cut down on carbs because they turn to sugar in your body, and of course sugar itself. If you were all eating much the same I am sure you would find it easier.
I am sending you hugs and a load of courage, please 'phone your surgery and make an appointment and talk to your doctor or nurse.
Much love to you Dumpling

Dear Candlelight
That was such a lovely post, thank you for saying what you did. Unfortunately my doctor's surgery will not be able to help me as I have asked before. I weigh far too much to register on their scales and all they do is scold me for not losing weight. My actual gp is lovely but he is very busy and it is hard to get an appointment. I have tried doing it their way with attending a weight management course but that was for people who want bariatric surgery and I do not.
You are right about my diabetes, it is uncontrolled at the moment and I feel lousy with it. I will get the family involved in helping me and making meals.
I am going to Slimming World to get some support and to get me out of the house. I don't know what this group is like, I am hoping beacause of the time of it, it will be a quieter group. If I hate it, I won't go again but I need to do something for me, I need to be brave and leave my house. Thank you so much for your concern and advice. I will let you all know how I get on xxx0 -
Good Morning everyone . Thanks Hester for starting us off . I hope things are moving with ss . I have been offline again due to a sick laptop , it went funny last Tuesday and I was told to shut it down until the problem had been figured out . It was weird as I never realised how often I use Mr Google every day . Finally fixed Sunday and fingers crossed all is ok .
I haven't read back as I was still trying to catch up on the previous nine days I missed !
I gather all is still well with the Candlelights and hopefully things are ok with Davey and Mr TA .
Sending hugs to any who would like one - Hope Judi is well .
pollyIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.
There but for fortune go you and I.0
