Help please

Samsung J5 phone and Samsung6400 smart TV

on phone I have Playto and Smartview

Sometimes (?) Playto does not appear at the top of the TV as a connection option

1. Using Playto on phone, I expect to see photos displayed on TV. They flick through on the phone, but tv says for each "file not supported"

The phone says it does detect the TV and blue tooth is on (needs to be ?)

2. I should ? be able to use Playto, to put the eg video that is playing on the phone, onto the TV - yes ? can't

If I use Smartview on phone, I CAN see the phones photos, on the TV

3. If I select Home/Network (this is for photos/music on the Computer) on the TV, 3000 photos appear as a 'camera', ie blank, (apart from one). If I click on each photo, it WILL load OK as a photo (but I only know what it is when I open it !)
The music I have, is listed. Click on it >>>loading.... nothing.

4. 'Screen Monitoring' (????). This is not available in the phones settings (so I cannot use on TV ?)

Sorry if there are muliple Q's here, but its all very confusing. Posted on TV and Mobile boards

It looks like you've got SmartView working (I think this is Samsung's brand name for MirrorLink screen mirroring) - why don't you just stick with that? You can share anything on the phone's screen, on the TV.

I can see the photos on the phone, displayed on the TV, but not eg, a video. For this, I need ? Playto ??

Smartview will mirror photos onto the tv, but it seems the J5 will not support mirroring (of say a video/tv program). Have tried downloading (suggested), Chromcast, but that does no good - "does not find a device"
Anything else to try ? (or should have bought a phone that does do it !)

Chromecast, the app you've installed, is there to cast to a Chromecast device, available for around £30, which you would plug into your TV. The app isn't finding a device. This would achieve what you want, but you have similar functionality built in. There are a couple of apps similar to PlayTo called CheapCast and AirDroid - give those a go. I haven't used either app though so can't help much there. You phone should be capable, the WiFi network would be the bottleneck for video.

Have a Google to find out if your phone supports MHL. If it does, get an MHL to HDMI lead.

say for a Samsung J5. So long as they have the right 'ends', any will do ??

MHL is a standard, sending video out of a micro USB port, so there's no such thing as a J5 MHL adapator - any MHL adaptor will work AS LONG AS your phone supports MHL. If you've confirmed your J5 does, that adaptor will do the job.
