Washington Munich Manchester delay

Grateful for any advise re delay coming home from US as not sure if compensation only applies to EU.
Booked on UNITED AIRLINES 106 from Washington Dulles to Munich 23.4.2016 5.25pm with connection UA 8754 8.50am on 24.4.2016 (operated by Lufthansa) to Manchester.
UA 106 left about an hour late due to the fact that it had been taken for some maintenance the day before and there was no tug available to bring it back for boarding. Landed at Munich as our flight to Manchester was leaving. We were rebooked onto Lufthansa LH2502 which left Munich at 3.35pm or just after. We were therefore stuck at Munich for about 6.5 hours.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In short the delay was on a non-EU airline on a flight departing from outside the EU = no EU261 compensation due irrespective of delay reason
Maybe see if your travel insurance pays anything for that length of delay (many don't kick in till 12 hours)0 -
Deleted because Caz3121 beat me to it0
