W10 very High Tech - Windows Defender is not switched on by default!

I guess, this is a European Ruling, another reason to leave the EU the sooner the better, get shut of the Eurocrats meddlers, safeguarding our interests?

My JVC 32'' HD TV wasn't compatible, when connected via HDMI. No adjustments possible in Windows 10. Half the Taskbar was missing off screen and desktop icons too far to left and half missing. Not supported by Windows 10. TV is over 10 years old, but is a perfect picture and good as new, why should I dump it, for Windows 10. Not an issue for me now, full refund from Amazon for Windows 10 PC.
Windows 10 - never say never
Windows 7 - perfect HDMI picture on my JVC TV

That's not Windows 10, that's your vid card's driver. The driver is 'overscanning' the picture, but your TV doesn't want that. Somehow you had overscan turned off in 7, but on in 10. Turn it back off.
Windows 10 won't let you change any resolution settings, check for yourself (W10 is very high tech)

Yes it does. Do what takman says in post #31.

I was glad to see the back of Windows 10 and get a full refund. I have washed my hands of W10, just passing my experiences on. The adjustment was their, but was not available - look up the problem on google - and watch out for the trojans/spyware, don't forget to enable Windows Defender.

If you have a computer monitor and connect via HDMI it won't be a problem, try connecting your W10 PC to an old HD TV via HDMI and try to adjust resolution settings.

I also have the Tesco Hudl 2 and it's plug and play with my JVC HD 32'' TV a perfect resolution, no adjustments needed.

Hello Erics mum, I see no one has asked you the question I used to ask when I built PC's for family & friends: -

What do you want to do with it? I imagine from your posts, that you want to write letters, documents, Facebook or other social media, shopping, emails, maybe a few low-spec games. Am I right? What about Internet Banking?

If I have your computer needs correct, I would recommend a laptop. I would recommend this:

The 500 GB Hard drive would store all your photos, etc, but you might also find it useful to buy an external drive to back up all your stuff:

Backups are not appreciated by anyone until they lose data and photos.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

It's obvious you haven't had a good experience, which is a shame. However, it would seem that you didn't use it properly and looks like you surf in some murky places..
Defender is default and the action center informs you if you have no AV active...
Using an ancient TV as a Monitor speaks volumes, but hey, it's your PC...;)
As you have now reverted back to whatever floats your boat it's pointless continuing your rants as they are not really helping anyone.

You've got my usage spot on, plus a few simple spreadsheets, Internet banking , a modest number of songs and photos as per my OP. The only thing that puts me off a laptop is screen size - the one I have at the mo is 21 inches and I rather like a big'un !!. The idea is appealing though, less clutter from box, keyboard and mouse on the desk.

I'll browse the site you linked for me, very kind of you.

Murky Waters to find a solution to the resolution issues. I've got a desktop W7 with a nice new monitor. The new PC was a Mini PC with W10, thought I'd try it on my TV, but not up to the task.

W10 is user friendly, just plug and play. It didn't help with over half the task bar missing, I suppose Windows Defender is located in the taskbar by default, when you switch it on. Just stating the problems I encountered.
    Cheers

What on earth are you on about?!

"I can't get Windows 10 to display an appropriate TV image... I blame the EU!" :rotfl:

I've seen some ridiculous arguments about EU membership recently, but this takes the biscuit!
