I think the OP wants Amazon firestick, chrome cast etc and then to link them to mifi as opposed to BB as mifi may be quicker over the 4g network.

This will work but you'll need to check on data limits.

Not my own movies but movies I can download or stream

But the question is where from legitimate sources are Sky Talk Talk BT TV etc .
Or do you mean illegal streams found on the internet .If the later then the answer to the original question is no.

Legitimate sources, as you can tell I have no idea about any of this, let alone illegal streams

    You are correct!

We do have a fire stick with Prime videos & Netflix & yes I want to use it with Mifi as landline broadband is so slow

I think you're going to have to give more details, if you want to get the most effective advice:-

    - Is it the landline BB or the mobile data service that is slow (or is it both)?

    - What are you actually looking for in a TV service - is it access to catch-up and video-on-demand, access to Netflix/Sky channels or just "Sky+" recording services?

    - How do you watch TV at the moment? Freeview? Sky? Cable?

    - Have you checked on the availability of Fibre Broadband?

    To answer your questions:-

Downloading allows you to bring content onto your device before watching it. It can (to an extent) compensate for a slow connection, although it then starts to take longer than real-time to download something i.e. takes more than 1 hour to download a 1 hour programme.

I had a quick search and it looks like the largest mobile data contract is 32GB per month with EE. On that basis, you'd be looking at an average of 1 hour of content per day, which doesn't seem that much. By comparison, unlimited landline BB contracts are very common these days.

It's the landline broadband that is slow, would like to use 4g Mifi instead.

If possible I would like to watch TV with all the features you mentioned

We currently use SKY but I have cancelled movies due to bb being as slow

We cannot get Virgin, in fact nothing faster than 2Mbps but all providers only guarantee 512 Kbps

My 3 one plan with unlimited tethering which I currently use with Netflix & Amazon Prime videos ends next month :(

Yes, of course I have checked availability for fibre broadband, it MAY be available in March 2017 😳

I would definitely look into Satellite BB as suggested by Kurtis_blue.

I would probably also keep Sky, assuming you were happy with it, as there won't be any more satisfactory way to get access to TV than that, until you can access improved BB. Don't they still have Movies on linear channels that don't require BB?

You can certainly ask the question of Mifi providers and users as to what types of content and access they permit, but linking a "normal" Smart TV or STB to any of them is probably going to be an issue. Even if you can get a reliable connection that way, the overall data limit is going to seriously restrict what you can do.

IIRC, Now TV, Chromecast and Amazon Fire HD all have wifi connectivity, with Youview being Ethernet (hard-wired).

  • Thanks a million, sounds like what we need, now to find out cost.
    THANK YOU
