I am into engineering and the salaries are decent, yet I only started realizing that other jobs may pay much better. I found law, inv. banking and consulting to pay quite higher. Could you advise me which other positions/companies/careers/degrees would pay more than the regular 25-30k as grad, 50k as senior after 5-10 years, 60-80k as manager after 10-15 years? There are law companies that pay 100k for graduates! Any other info please? Thanks!
Firstly, dont be driven by money. Theres more to life than money. Very high paying jobs are very high paying for reasons :-
(a) they expect you to sell your soul to them and eat, sleep and breathe their business.
(b) they pay the high salaries to the truly exceptional.
At this point in your life you probably think - being one of the snowflake generation - you are truly exceptional, but you're not.
If you're quite good at engineering and enjoy it, stick with it.0 -
A broad-based engineering degree lets you transfer into all kinds of areas later in life. I have a B.Eng., worked in manufacturing, worked in IT, now work in entertainment. What's far more important is being capable and being able to get along with people.
Sure, some industries pay better than others, but the best people in each always earn more than the worst. Better still, don't think in terms of salary, think in terms of employing people - family friend used to fix up cars on the drive of his rental flat, built the business right up, employs dozens of people, sponsors events, makes rare car parts, has a huge house with a lake and live-in gardeners, etc.0 -
I am not looking for exceptional and exotic things, like 1 in a million cases who made a company or footballers like other say etc.
I am looking for regular jobs or companies, that just pay alot higher.0 -

Why?
Are you really that exceptional that you can put your hand to anything and come out with a First Class degree, wow at interview and excel in your job?
Are you the 1% of the 1%?0 -

What about that guy on here recently who was banging his boss and got promoted to 50k?0 -
If you're into engineering, you're hardly gonna be happy as an investment banker or lawyer, are you?
I knew plenty of physicists who went into investment banking and related careers, and I presume they are happy as they are still there 35 years later. One does look 15 years older than me, despite being the same age, so all those rich meals, drinks and cigars cannot have done him any good.0 -
If you like engineering, then one way to make decent money is to learn something of value, such as Near Field Communication, and then work on contracts. But you have to keep yourself up to date and sell yourself.0

Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0
