Good paying jobs?

Options
I am into engineering and the salaries are decent, yet I only started realizing that other jobs may pay much better. I found law, inv. banking and consulting to pay quite higher. Could you advise me which other positions/companies/careers/degrees would pay more than the regular 25-30k as grad, 50k as senior after 5-10 years, 60-80k as manager after 10-15 years? There are law companies that pay 100k for graduates! Any other info please? Thanks!

If you're into engineering, you're hardly gonna be happy as an investment banker or lawyer, are you?

Bare in mind that you'll spend 8 hours a day in a job so you should be driven by your interests and not money.

I have many interests. I don't find it hugely different to work with engineering dimensions or financial amounts. I enjoy problem solving and law involves alot of it. I am open to many options, even career change. Many engineering grads have gone into finance or other stuff.
    Yes I am an undergrad
  • What type of engineering are you in? Where are you studying? Both of these will factor quite heavily into what type of graduate role you could likely apply for.

A lot of my colleagues who work as engineers would be surprised if those are claims about engineering salaries.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

I had a friend who only focused on the money. he said he even turned down jobs because 25k was a small wage for a fancy grad. many years later, i don't believe he has a job.

Do what you enjoy doing don't focus solely on money, rarely/never ends well.

    Ah, those gold paved streets!:)

This might come across as trolling, but the sort of people who are going to end up with massive salaries really shouldn't need to come on here asking for basic pointers.

This information should be available from your Uni - don't they have any kind of career advisory service? Then go along to the next jobs fair (milk round), if such things still exist, and chat to the people manning the stalls there about what their job actually involves to see whether it would be your sort of thing.

Your uni should also have information about what jobs/salaries people on your course have ended up with in the past, which might help you set your expectations.

I am very surprised undergraduates are still under the illusion that they are going to walk into 25k jobs. It is very unlikely. Most graduates I have come across have had a crappy job for a year or so before they start their careers properly, even then they haven't started on 25K.
