I was going to say, shout "My hearing aid battery's run out!"
They might not know you've got a hearing aid but they'd rationalise it to explain a lot of previous conversations where you've not been keeping up with them.
PS get a hearing aid. Don't bother with batteries.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
