My GM was suspended - week before my contract ends

I have no idea what the OP was about. But my sympathies are with the employer in any case where someone is rude enough to post a question, get helpful input, and then delete their original question so that it cannot benefit anyone else!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0

Internet archives are great.
Hi everyone!
Been reading on the forum for years but this is my first ever post!
So. I want some advice on a situation I have at work. Three months ago I signed a 'secondment' at my work place. It was meant to be for 6 months, but with the possibility to revert back to my original role in case of operational need.
Three months have now passed. I do not wish to stay in my secondment role, and I know my general manager also wanted me to go back to my original work. However, he has now been suspended during some sort of investigation. He won't be back until earliest two weeks from now (to be honest I don't think he will be back tho, but no one is sure) I never got a chance to see what his plan was, but I can see myself on the rota in my old department.
Now the issue I have with this is that I wanted to speak with my general manager about how I do not want to go back to my original role as team member. I am also on our senior manager rota, doing about 10 shifts per month. Hence I suspect I would keep my old salary, but as a regular 'team member' 3 days per week in my old role.
During my secondment two new shift leaders were hired. I wanted to suggest to my general manager that he would make me supervisor as we currently do not have one. No increase in salary needed (as I'm already in that salary bracket from my senior manager shifts anyway), I really just want the responsibilities that come with it. I will have to train the new shift leaders anyway. I will stay as senior manager, which they are not.. But I will still work under them.
The person now in charge during our GM's absence is a close colleague of mine. He does not want to make any decision, although theoretically I am sure he can. I guess he is worried in case the GM comes back and isn't happy with me as a supervisor. He suggested I would go back to my original role and wait for my GM to come back.. But even tho it isn't, it would feel like a 'demotion'.
I am on the rota from 1st of May in my original role. I am Not happy about this, as nothing about it has really been communicated with me. What do you suggest I do?
I am contemplating telling the acting GM I want the responsibilities, no extra money and only a 1 month trial for now. I won't ask for a supervisor contact as I understand it might be too big a decision for him to make.
I genuinely feel like leaving if I do not get this role.. It is desperately needed, as the department has never had a supervisor or manager.. and even with the shift leaders, leadership really is lacking !
Sorry for wall of text! Any thoughts, ideas, opinions and questions very welcome as I love my job, but so confused at what to do at this point.0 -
I saved my post. I just wanted it off here while my situation was still going on... was always going to put it back in one weeks time, along with the outcome in case someone was interested!0

If anyone wonders what happened in the end... I accepted the other job, but also got to keep my contract with my old employer. Will be working both places for a few months. For me, it turned out perfect an I'm very grateful !
