    Any thoughts

Your secondment is coming to an end, return to your substantive post and carry on where you left off.

There are too many "I's" in your tale, remember its not always about you and what you wish to happen.

I can see your point, but it is not an option to me. I will instead take another job offer that I have. Which I think is a shame, as I love my place of work, just not my original role.

Why is it not an option?

I have another job offer i would rather take than go back to a team member position.

The reason it's not an option.. I guess it's because I do have the most knowledge of the department, and I know if I did go back to my original role I will be training all of the team again anyway.. But without getting any 'acknowledgement' for it. I have been at my job for over a year now, and feel I need more responsibilities, and I want to be able to put it on my CV I guess. Otherwise I will feel like I am...well. Not going forward.

Thank you for your reply.. But I am not sure what part you think is fair. Fair to end my secondment early, without a proper meeting with anyone about it... Not entirely fair in my opinion. But, I am not sure putting pressure on the acting GM on making a decision is either. Confused!

Fair that you want to keep your options open and possibly take a new job if it suites you better.

The person now in charge during our GM's absence is a close colleague of mine. He does not want to make any decision, although theoretically I am sure he can. I guess he is worried in case the GM comes back and isn't happy with me as a supervisor. He suggested I would go back to my original role and wait for my GM to come back..

The question is if he thinks the GM would be any happier if you resigned before he came back.

I would push him to make a decision and accept that it might be subject to ratification if the GM returns. If he refuses and you resign you could mention this in your resignation letter (if you would rather stay than go to the new role) to give them a chance to change their minds.

Look - the changes have been forced upon them because the GM is unexpectedly absent... they have more than enough to cover without staff members badgering about their individual career paths etc.

The business continuation will be the priority here and not your aspirations. Any threats to leave (if you don't get what you want) will seem opportunistic and make you stand out as not being a team player.

I think you may have missed this post - I gathered that any 'threat to leave' would be in the form of handing in notice.
