Cutting out a single tile....

I had the genius idea of fitting a new vanity unit in the cloakroom. Removed old one and there is damage behind, which was hidden. Not any more, as the new one is about 15mm lower.

I need to cut out one tile and replace it. Is this easy to do? Any tips? I had thought of raising the unit but I think this will not look good.

Expert advice appreciated.

Depending on what was used to fix it and too what e.g timber board etc if adhesive some would then heat broken tile using iron / hot air gun/ hair drier to make adhesive tacky again then just pry of using putty knife etc

Tile adhesive doesn't work like that. It's not solvent based . A heat gun on water based or cement based adhesive wont do jack

    Two types of tile adhesive

    Cement based

    Water based dispersion adhesive

    Neither are effected by heat

Cut/ rake the grout line then smash the tile out with a hammer and chisel

A little bit of information is dangourous in the wrong hands:eek:

If you fail to rake the grout out you risk breaking or chipping the adjacent tile on removal

What do I know, well over 500 bathroom installs ripped out and refitted

Maybe that says you only use two types of tile adhesive? Not that over the past few years lots of new (and some not so new ) different ones have come onto the market ....

LIKE???? Tell me what adhesive you've used that comes away with heat or steam.....two things that a bathroom has a huge amount off

What havei missed in the last 20yrs. Used pretty much everything from Bal, Mapei, Palace, weber, ultra, Dunlop and so on

A steamer will soften adhesive once a tile is removed but it won't get through a non porous porcelain tile. It might eventually get through a ceramic tile as these often absorb 20% moisture
