No builders merchants don't deliver. You might find because it's under £100 it doesn't qualify for free delivery and you might have to pay.

Roof bars, easy. (I drive round with an 8m rowing boat on top of my car....) 3m won't even overhang for most cars

And yes, you've not spent enough for them to deliver

OK made contact with a fitter who came round but his van is not large enough for the countertop either. He is relying on us to collect it. OH is no dab hand with any tools, not even a saw so no chance of trimming in car park. Builders merchants is Builders Depot who say clearly on their website that they do not deliver countertops, it is collect only.

So resigned to going over there (on public transport) as it is a nightmare on the roads round there, to check it is suitable, and if so, buy and place on reserve. Then find local man with a flat bed truck to collect it.

But if he was reasonable he would cut to length at suppliers, show me a van you can't get 2mtrs into.
Maybe you have selected to wrong fitter, sounds just a tad amatuerish to be honest.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Well the fitter is very highly rated on CheckaTrade and says if we assemble the main components on site, he can do it all in a day with his team, which suits us as well.

The countertop is a very hard to find item (and we have to have that one to match existing counters) and the Builders Depot where they have it in stock is a good hour's drive each way to get there and back. We would rather absorb that cost ourselves than pay fitter to drive there and back.

Can you fit a 3m length in a Peugeot Partner Van without a roof rack?

    An hour's drive each way?

A pair of roof bars for your car would probably be cheaper than paying a man with a van.

Contact your local rugby club (often have access to a minibus) and ask if they're on for a charity fun run with a difference? You donate a lump to their charity, they lug a length of 3m countertop 8 miles. So long as the weather's reasonably cooperative, & the humour's robust? Let them sort the photo opportunity...

And along the same lines but of a different organisation, try your Explorer Scouts? If anyone needs to do a group walk over a specific time for a purpose, that could be a dilly & again, photo opportunities. Plus they might tidy away the old countertop for firewood.

Final [& slightly daft suggestion], borrow a Silver Cross (or other robust brand) pram, tie one end into place & start to walk. If you haven't had at least one offer of help within a mile, we really have gone to the dogs as a nation.

    All the best!

The guy that did my kitchen had a Vauxhall Combo, quite adequate for hauling his tools around but at a length from the headboard of around 1.6 ish meters, no good for a long run of countertop. I don't see it as amateurish, he has the vehicle that suits him.

I'm guessing it will be less than 2 meter length inside. I run vans for a living, but not Partners. Generally those size vans are less than 2 meters length, often with a bulkhead that would not allow for length being fed into the cab area.

I'd just get someone to go and pick it up for you, one of the man and van type carriers that seem to frequent most towns. Sorry no idea of cost, it's not the type of work we cover, but it shouldn't be too much and seems the easiest option.
