Morning :hello:

Scamps was very good, he was a bit nervous with a couple of people at the rescue centre but soon made friends with them when he realised they had treats :D He was calm in the car, he led down in his tent the whole time. He waited til he got back in the house to throw up all over my new laminate floor, lol.

I couldn't work out exactly where the rats were coming in, so I spent a lot of time staring out of the bedroom windows. Hope the neighbours over the back didn't think I was spying on them, lol. I saw one appear from behind the chicken shed so I watched that spot a few times during the day, that's definitely their route into the garden. There's now plenty of poison round the back and side of the shed, hopefully they'll be gone soon.

The weather was miserable yesterday, I thought it was meant to last the weekend but the sun is shining now.

Now that things are cleaned, sorted, thrown away or recycled, I can see exactly what's what in the house. I'm still spotting things and wondering why we still have them. I feel like I've given everything a once over and now need to go round again to refine it :D I'm going to put a basket in each room and fill it with things I don't want in there. I'll worry about where I do want the stuff to go once I'm happy with what's left. This will probably be a longer job than I'm imagining but I'm determined to get it done, no matter how long it takes.

Morning everyone,

Bright but just had a sharp shower, feels cold though and heating has kicked in again.

Got a lot done yesterday so lazier day today, went to Aldee's for fruit and veg, picked up some pansies for Mum but tbh the rest of the plants that were left looked a bit ropey so left them on the stand. Did pick up some of their choc for our Friday night treat and it was delic, little individual bars for 130 calories, yum. Got on scales this morning and have lost another 1lb so that's 11 in all, only three to go for my stone :j
Am off into Cambridge today for a haircut, usually try to avoid the city at the weekend as it can be horrendously busy and hate crowds but it was the only appointment could get and my hair gets very unruly very quickly.

Agree with Gers about the full moon thing, definetly makes a difference to my sleep pattern. Hope you manage to get a nana nap Hester, please look after yourself love, you have a lot of stress at the moment :(
Hugs to all, especially Judi and Jackie have a good day everyone, take care folks x
• Good Morning everyone it's a really beautiful day here, wall to wall blue sky and sunshine but cooler than it has been and set that way for the week. We lit the stove again yesterday having thought the burning season was over, you can't be bored with weather in the UK can you?

I'm another one who is having trouble sleeping a whole night through, having gone up at 10.30 last night I was sound until 2.30ish and then awake for most of the time until 6.30 when I must have dozed off and woke with a real start at 7.40, hate that it makes me groggy for the first few hours of the day. Washing in the machine and hopeful of it drying outside and He Who Knows and a friend are making a start on putting up the new fence panels, was scheduled for yesterday but the rain stopped play!

I had a lovely skype with that Zebra yesterday and he was so proud to show me the toy aeroplane same as the one I flew in to 'Merica Oma and his toy Moose and the best he's picked up some little nursery songs and sang me Row Row Row Your Boat, it's the first time I've heard him sing, so sweet. House pottering is planned for today and making a cake, I don't often bake for us these days, it seems to be an endless litany of we can't have that it's not healthy to whatever we fancy so today I'm ignoring that completely and a cake it will be. Lunch will be some lovely big mushrooms stuffed with low fat cream cheese, chopped bacon and a drizzle of truffle oil and supper a nice big slow cooker Louisiana Chilli with rice and salad. The motor on the fan in my main oven failed on Thursday so I can only use the top oven which isn't a fan one, I'll have to watch my cake carefully as I'm out of practise with temperature and timings having had the fan oven for years. New motor is ordered and will be fitted some time next week which will be good.

Have yourselves a lovely day everyone, Lyn xxx.

Good Morning chums back from my break, although a dreadful journey down the M1 and M25 & M2 last night rained almost the whole way.It was a good break and my friend was really good in keeping me occupied:)
We even stopped off via south Derbyshire to go to Calke Abbey. If any of you who like stately homes live within driving distance I would highly recommend it Fantastic place and the sign as you go into the parkland says it all The most unstately home to visit .Great volunteer guides who were so informative and its such a quirky place I absolutely loved it, and if you ever want to see what the NT do for a building then this is the place to visit. We had a very nice lunch there as well which didn't break the bank. One of the stories I liked was that one of the ancestors of the family had fallen for a ladies maid and got her in an 'interesting condition' But instead of throwing her out on her ear, he married her much to the consternation of the family, which I thought was brilliant for those times. There is a tiny portrait of her behind one of the doors it really couldn't get much smaller in comparison to the other huge family portraits :):):) they obviously wern't keen on showing her face which was a shame as she was quite a pretty lass. Lots of great stories about this odd family as well.probably one of the best places I have been to for ages.

Got home eventually last night around 8.30.Luckily I had been to the supermarket on Thursday for salad bits and just before we set off home yesterday morning we went into Leek and I bought some terrific sliced ham to bring home from the butter market there, also some fresh veg.Thursday was spent in Buxton which is another nice town and we drove over the peaks to get there.Scenery was just superb, we had lunch in an edwardian tea room full of 'ladies of a certain age wot lunch':):):) I loved eavesdropping on what they were saying.Half expected Alan Bennett to pop in for a toasted teacake and a pot of tea ,all lace tablecloths and doilies.very atmospheric :) we then moved onto Macclesfield for a wander .In the High Street were three slightly elderly chaps singing and playing all 1960's stuff and we were singing along with them :) We stopped a lady to ask about a coffee and cake place and she directed us down the street where we found this gorgeous deli which also served cake to die for I seemed to have spent a lot of my week eating nice cake and drinking coffee so its back to normality today :) no more fantastic cakes from tea rooms.I tried the filled Staffordshire oatcakes at the museum in Stoke whilst we were there (another great place to see ) Bit like pancakes to look at but very nice and the lunch there including a pot of tea was around £4.00 so great value. Terrific museum as well, When we were in Cheadle after seeing the Pugin church ( amazing to see ) we found a tiny tea room off the High Street down an alleyway and the lady in there makes the very best Lemon meringue pie I have ever had.

I have had such a good time and it was great to relax and take my mind of my lovely brother who is still in hospital in Poitiers. My nephew said they are trying him on stronger chemo to see if they can halt the progression of his cancer.I was hoping to fly out to see him next week, but I am still nursing this dreadful cold which seems to have left me with a headful of grot and a hacking cough.his immunity is so low I can't visit him until its gone.

Its certainly been an eventful week for me and the TV news seems to be nothing but bad at the moment .I am off to see my DGS shortly and take them a few bits I have brought back as little presents

My washing machine is whirling away downstairs and as the sun is actually shining I am hoping to get it on the line for a quick blow.

its good to be able to get online again though as our wi-fi at the cottage was a bit hit and miss and often would just shut down :)
I loved all the sights I have seen and enjoyed all the lovely friendly people that we met there is no doubt the folk in the north are really friendly and seem to be pleased to meet you. Everyone I met loved to natter and chat which is right up my street :):):) so thanks to all the smashing folk I have met and I hope I will return up there again.

Cheers everyone
JackieO xx

JackieO sounds like you both had a fab time! My DS2 gets married near Macclesfield in September, it's a lovely part of the world, as is the Peak District.

Jackie I think I must've caught your cold! :D I have an absolute stinker - gone through I-don't-know-how-many hankies over the last couple of days. Still managed to get up at sparrow-fart to take Alfie for his walk; bless him, we've been taking him up as far as the petanque piste in the mornings, then turning round and coming home. This morning, he didn't want to turn round, so we carried on down to the Roman remains, did a circuit of those, and then back. Thankfully the sun was shining. It was flippin' cold at that time of the morning, though!

Back from work, via TO Maximising, where I bought a new bag as my dark one has all ripped lining and my lighter one is desperately shabby and I do not mean in a shabby chic way. Yes I possibly could have a go at mending the black one's lining but I don't want to. All the other things bought this week are replacement of shabby stuff for work.

I am hungry and about to eat last night's leftover egg fried rice, I made spare ribs in hoisin sauce, veggie stir fry and the rice. Also some prawn crackers, of which I got 3 before a plague of locusts descended with ravening maw, and some spring rolls and wonton thingers from as*a, which was debauchery in the extreme as I can make them.
OH has shopped and will cook tonight, he has bought beef for me to cook tomorrow.

Please may I ask you this - is it acceptable to wear navy to a funeral or must it be black?
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Afternoon everyone, I hope you are all ok. Hugs to those that are not.
I have had a very lazy day today. Yesterday was a busy one for me as my brother and sister came to see us, my daughter in particular as she had turned 18. I thought it was very kind of them as they came from Bristol and Reading. My daughter appreciated the effort and was pleased to receive some nice presents and money.
I was up early dropping off the same daughter who has gone to London for the day with a friend. I did instruct on all the safety issues but she isn't daft and is now an adult anyway. But you can't help but worry.
Today I have hoovered and tidied up somewhat but have also sat on the sofa with a blanket over me, eating leftovers and watching tv. I think it's chilly again so have just turned on the heating, even though it's nearly may.

Hester I do hope things improve for your husband at his work. Do look after yourself too. X

Jacki O your week away sounds fab. Makes me want to go travelling.x

Well I won't be doing too much for the rest of the day. I will save the washing for tomorrow and leftovers will contribute towards a lazy tea. I hope everyone has a good rest of the day. Hopefully it will brighten and warm up tomorrow. Xx
