I rang my preferred computer shop before, they've fixed my laptop before. The guy I spoke to didn't seem unduly concerned, he said because Vista is coming to the end of its natural life, there aren't many updates currently being released, and they tend to be definition updates for Windows Defender.
I thought well, he's the expert and I'm happy to accept his expert opinion, and, in any event I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 installed on my laptop, so do I need Windows Defender Updates?
So what do you think, does his explanation sound plausible, or do you think he may have been trying to fob me off?
    I think it's the latter.

Vista is still supported until April 2017; until then if anything it's likely to need slightly more patches as it's older.

Here is Microsoft's description of the patches released in June (last week).

You'll note from the 'Affected Software' section that two of the 'Critical' updates, and also two of the 'Important' ones, affect Vista.

Thank you Jivesinger. What should I do then?
One thing I would say, I never use Internet Explorer. Will that minimize the problem?
    Thank you.
