Oh dear the problem is back!
No Windows updates to Vista since 10th May.
I've tried rebooting a few times but so far no joy.
Any help appreciated.0 -
Set it up to scan for Windows Updates, and leave your machine on overnight (if not longer) running something like Mouse Jiggler to ensure it doesn't go to sleep.0

Microsoft updates are released on the 2nd Tuesday of the month (commonly called patch Tuesday). Wait a week (well, a week and a day, as they go on US time not UK time) and you'll likely have some.
Don't fret now though.0 -

A computer shop is likely to reinstall the operating system for which they may charge an hour's labour. I would get them to quote for putting Windows7 on. It may not be much more expensive. Or if you want them to fix the problem agree a maximum cost. EDIT: backup all important data first if going to a shop.0

I thought well, he's the expert and I'm happy to accept his expert opinion, and, in any event I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 installed on my laptop, so do I need Windows Defender Updates?
So what do you think, does his explanation sound plausible, or do you think he may have been trying to fob me off?0 -

Vista runs fine if fully patched and you have 2GB memory. If it does what you want it do do, keep it as it is.0 -
