HI, MY T-mobile contract fone needs replacing.........

Does anyone know if I purchase a PAYG T-mobile fone, if my SIM will work with it?

Also will Vodafone contract SIMS work in Vodafone PAYG handsets?

Thanks in advance :)

Just because they're the same network DOESN'T mean they will work. Most providers nowadays use "SP-Lock"s, meaning the phone is locked a specific network code. However, some networks use different network codes for PAYG, contract, etc. So sometimes the phone won't recognize a contract SIM, if it's locked on the PAYG code. This is all just theory though.

I successfully done this with T-Mobile. Never used Vodafone though so can't comment ;)

In a word, YES :D It's the network that it's locked to, not the SIM.

Also, a virgin SIM should work in a T-Mobile locked handset, as should a tesco SIM in a O2 locked phone..

  • Virgin Sims wont work in a TMobile locked handset and Tesco's will not work in an 02 Locked Handset. They use different locking codes even though they share the network.

A TMobile contract sim will work in a TMobile PAYG phone, but as Senab has said, with Voda they sometimes use different locks for PAYg to contract.

my tescos/o2 are interchangeable, as was virgin/t-mob, both older less sophisticated phones (nokia 3310, 3410 era) though, so maybe that's been the difference ???

Virgin sim works on T-mobile PAYG phone, but not the other way around in my case. Then my T-mobile phone is old, so may be different nowadays...

my tmobile locked k810i and k700i both accept tmob/virgin sims, but my virgin locked k750i will only take virgin sims as its locked on SP and network. my k810i is locked on the extended lock
