Missed connection-Lufthansa

Hi we were booked onto a Lufthansa flight from Orlando to Birmingham via Frankfurt- both flights were Lufthansa flights booked at the same time as a single journey. Our flight from Orlando to Frankfurt arrived late, resulting in us missing our connecting flight from Frankfurt to Birminghan and we had to wait at Frankfurt for 4:30 hours for the next flight.
I used the claim tool on the MSE site and Lufthansa responded with a voicemail message this morning (at 6:38) to say that we were not entitled to compensation as the delay was caused by "an unforeseen technical problem on the aircraft, which could not be repaired at short notice." My questions are:(1) can we pursue this further and, if so, (2) when making the claim should I be claiming for the delayed journey being from Frankfurt to Birmingham or from Orlando to Birmingham, as it was, in essence one journey, albeit two separate flights.
Hope someone can advise please .... I have tried to find this information on the forums and on the main site but I can't find anything much about missed connections.
Thank you.

Have you put your flight details into a flight checker online like Euclaim or Bott & co.0
-
1. Download Vauban's guide - answers should be in their.
2. Please post further in the dedicated Lufthansa thread, not your own personal thread. If you're new. read The FAQ and Vauban's Guide
The alleged Ringleader.........0 -
as said, read the guide & use the tool.
But it does sound like you have a claim.0 -
Thanks to all that responded and apologies for not posting in the Lufthansa thread -is it possible for me to move this post to that one, or do I have to start a new one there? Also please note that I wasn't being lazy- I had previously looked at the FAQ and tried to look at Vauban's guide but couldn't open the link. I did in fact use the Resolver tool. Nothing, however, seems to address my question which is 'are we supposed to claim compensation for the delayed journey from Orlando through to Birmingham or just from Frankfurt to Birmingham -because, obviously, that impacts on our claim value. I have since tried looking at the Euclaim and Botts site (thanks for the recommendation, Justice) but that also doesn't really help because their online tool doesn't allow for our situation. None of the flights were actually delayed by over three hours.... the simple fact is that the first flight was delayed by less than an hour but that meant we missed our connection, and because the next flight wasn't for another 4 hours the total journey ended up being delayed by 4 and a half hours.
I've used the Resolver tool and received a voice mail message from Lufthansa denying any liability. I'm tempted to use one of the professional claim companies. As the guide says: 70% of something is better than 100% of nothing. If anyone has an opinion on any of them I'd be glad to hear it.0 -

Your claim would be from Orlando to Birmingham...it would not be for the Frankfurt to Birmingham on it's own as that flight was not delayed. You missed it because of the earlier delay

On EUClaim once you enter your original flight there is a button to "add connecting flight" then you can select "I missed my connection" and provide the flight number of the later flight0 -

Look up my latest post in the "Before you post, read this...' thread - the link to Vauban's guide in that post is working I've just checked it.
The delay length of your individual flights is irrelevant, you claim for the delay to your final arrival time (the time the aircraft doors open & allow you to disembark).
As you booked it as a through-journey at the same time the distance will be the total of the whole journey Orlando - Birmingham via Frankfurt, so your entitlement for a valid claim will be 600 Euros per passenger.
In Vauban's guide, carefully read the binding rulings of the Folkerts judgement for missed connecting flights & the Wallentin-Herman judgement rulings regarding extraordinary circumstances.
Entirely personal decision whether to use NWNF solicitor, either way sounds like you have a valid claim.
Lufthansa will try every tactic available to stall & put you off in the hope you'll give up - LBA either direct from you or from solicitor is the best way to go asap without first getting drawn into an endless exchange of emails.
Good luck.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
SUCCESS THROUGH PERSEVERANCE.
Flight delays - Vauban's Guide has been of immense help - please read it before posting questions - I'll be surprised if your answers aren't in there.
