Archers/Furmanac Electric bed.

This may be quite long, My late husband and I purchased 2 electric beds May 8th 2012, through Archers bed store, the brand was Furmanac, at a cost of £1439-63, we paid an extra £260 to have 2 drawers in base on each bed and £65 for delivery and assembly, grand total of £1664-63.
These were delivered 9th June 2012, sadly my husband died on the 12th, not relevant really.
I kept the beds as I like to read in bed so used it for support then, on the 24th March my bed stopped raising the head, bottom and middle lift still working so not the motor. I investigated by removing mattress to have a look, couldn`t get the drawer under the head part open, I could see a piece of plastic in the drawer, lid shaped and no appearance of damage, but difficult to see properly due to the wooden slats, I rang Archers on Easter Sunday 27th March, and reported not working, having read details of purchase it stated 5 year warrantyagainst faulty manufacture.
Followed up with a further call on 30th March, just as a reminder as Easter period, 1 week later I rang again and enquired what was happening, told they had contacted Furmanac who would be in touch, waited 2 weeks, rang again, told they had tried to contact me, no record of in my call logs, there was a £70 call out charge which would be reimbursed if proved their fault, I grudgingly paid the £70, waited another week, nothing, rang yesterday 20th April, told they would contact Furmanac and ring back in 15mins or so, waited 3 hrs rang again, to be told, Furmanac would come to repair bed at a cost of over £350+ for a new motor, as it was not a guarantee but a warranty, told them to forget it , and to re-imburse my £70 immediately, as I had received no contact from Furmanac how did they deduce it was a motor needed as motor still worked.
Funny part now, I decide, 65yr old women, to remove mattress and see if I could see problem myself, I had done nothing before in case invalidated any guarantee/warranty, the mechanism is very simple and the lid I could see holds it all in place, managed to lift head part up and stand inside the base, so I could lift the motor back up, clip the lid back in place, bound it well with duck tape, never pop off again, had to do the same with bottom of motor as that had dropped due to my fiddling, that involved removing the drawer and lying on my back getting under the bed.
After all this story I would like to know what is difference between guarantee and warranty as it seems to be useless.

Theres not really a lot of difference between them.

A guarantee is provided by the manufacturer usually. Where a warranty is something you purchase - like when you purchase a 3 year extended warranty from currys for example.

What were the terms of the warranty/guarantee you received with the bed? Sounds like they could possibly be trying to fob you off.

The Chloe is made by Furmanac, the UK's only specialist manufacturer of adjustable bed mechanisms and comes with a full 5 year warranty against manufacturing faults.

That is what we bought, I have now fixed the bed mechanism, as stated in my first post, I am very annoyed by the service,or lack of, from Archers and also Furminac, Archers who didn`t seem bothered and Furminac who wanted £350+ when they hadn`t even enquired the nature of the fault. I made it very clear the bottom and middle of the bed still raised, so the motor was fine. I am still waiting for my £70 back, I will give them until Monday then another phone call.

How did you pay that £70?
    By card I hope.
If so, and they don't respond positively when you phone them on Monday, contact you card issuer and ask for a chargeback.

Might be a good idea to read MSE's Chargeback article first.

Thanks for that info, I used my credit card as I vaguely recalled something about best to use.
