Has anyone used L&C?

I'm a FTB and not knowing anything about mortgages or solicitors etc I decided to give these guys a call. But now I'm not so sure it was the best idea. They have set me up with a solicitors who is at the other end of the country and a mortgage with nationwide. I'm thinking if I went with nationwide direct I could walk into the bank and drop my paperwork off and ask any questions etc without the middleman.

I'd avoid using them if you can. Some people find them ok if it's a very simple application, but it's essentially a big conveyor belt.

I'm using them at the moment and have found them to be really good, they have got us a great deal we wouldn't have been able to get direct as my partner has some minor historic credit issues. I am using my own solicitor though rather than the L&C ones (although mine is also at the other end of the country but highly recommended by family and friends!)

Yes using them again. Good for a FTB to help you through he process. My application is very straight forward and there was only one lender that would give me the required amount. L&C got a better rate for me than going direct to the lender.

L&C got us a rate we could have got anyway but we needed our mortgage to happen quickly and they chased it for us. The guy I dealt with gave us lots of time.
  • I found them good 1st time around when getting a remortgage.

2nd time around, completely useless. Said we couldn't get a mortgage to move house after saying we would be easy to place. I ended up sorting it out myself by going direct to a bank. Lots of unnecessary stress.

Have used once and they were Ok. However the 2nd time got a really pushy sales type person and eventually went to Which? brokers and they were really good! Mine wasn't a difficult application but a good broker will save you lots of time (which most of us don't have these days!)
  • I found them excellent. I tried a local independent whole of market broker, but they made a very basic error that I had already pre-warned them to pay attention to. I went to L&C who handled everything diligently, and didn't try to push solicitors or insurance on me. Thoroughly recommended.

Not used them but rang them a few weeks ago. The chap was quite honest in confirming that they don't have access to any special deals and it's just basically the same as searching on comparison websites.
They may be able to help if it's a none standard application/applicant.

I used them recently for a remortgage. Basically I already knew which deal I wanted, but it was from an intermediary-only lender, so I couldn't apply direct.

They did an efficient job of putting the application through and I got a mortgage offer within a couple of weeks. It wasn't a difficult case though.
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning
  • Used to use them and had a lovely man who was very helpful and excellent. This was absolutely years ago and before any recommendations by MSE. Last experience was rubbish and probably won't go with them again.
