Amber collar to repel fleas & ticks

Options
My dog weighs 6.3kg & has had an adverse reaction to advantix for 4-10kg dogs. She was fine on the up to 4kg treatment. For now, I've put her back on the smaller dose & I'm checking for ticks .

I had a chat with the vet & she recommended a Scalibor collar . I went on amazon to check prices and came across this....

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00I227TL6?psc=1

A collar made from pure amber, which apparently repels fleas & ticks naturally.

Has anyone tried it? Reviews look very good but have yet to look into it deeper.

Can I also ask - does a scalibor collar need to be worn 24/7 or is it something you can put on for walks and take off when home? Sorry if that's a really dumb question :o

'Apparently' being the key word there!

I'd stick to thinks that are based on evidence, Amber works for fleas on dogs about as well as it works for teething babies:

the Scalibor collar needs to be worn all the time.

It takes a about a week to be fully effective.

The Uk site advises to remove when swimming as it can affect fish but the USA site says it is safe for swimming.
    There are other safety warnings.
It is not safe around cats and children should not have prolonged contact with a dog wearing one.

the UK site says for ticks but the USA site says fleas and ticks.

There is also a Seresto collar which does both fleas and ticks.

It is a POM so needs to got from your vet or you need a prescription to buy one online.

I used a Scalibor collar from April to September for the last two years and haven't found one tick on either dog once it was effective.

I use crystals etc in my healing - and I am not aware that Amber has any insect repelling properties. Unless its the fossilised insect life trapped inside which acts as a warning, lol.
a few years ago amber 'teething' necklaces were all over the internet - I couldn't find any evidence to support that claim either.
please, do not rely on claims on websites for properties of crystals or gemstones.
Oh and just because something has been 'Approved' does NOT mean its effective - just that it is safe to use.

On the other hand I have not used any flea or tick products of any sort in the last two years and can also say we have not had any fleas or ticks in that time.
Make of that what you will.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I have just had a look at the product on Amazin - if that is real Amber I wonder how the hell they can sell it at that price! Amber is extremely expensive and even small pieces cost more than that.
Amber is very easy to fake - its a resin so can be replicated with resin easily.

I wondered that too because I have a few genuine pieces of amber and it was way more expensive that collar.

I'm not gullible enough to beleive everything I read and your comments are appreciated everyone x

    good for you owlet.
my own feeling was that if Amber really did have insect repelling powers
a- why would you find insect body parts in it? and
b- the ancients would have known about and it would have been used for thousands of years!
