Are you deliberately mis-reading my posts? What I keep saying is that the Switch Guarantee does not cover anything to do with the process of opening a new account and getting access to it. That you got everything before your switch was completed makes no difference to what the Switch Guarantee covers.0

No.
where in your previous post does it refer to the switch guarantee? you said "You describe the normal switch process. This process does not include getting online access, debit card and PIN."
i was answering a previous post, & then the reply that you'd posted to mine. i'm not a mindreader to realise that you were apparently following on from your previous post & actually referring to the switch guarantee.
i'll leave you to it seeing as you think you know best.
hope the OP has the info they wanted.0 -
Anyone who has a spare 20 k (or 40k for a couple ) would be stark staring mental not to be switching to the 123 account. My switch was simplicity itself, no horrors no problems, and was over in a week or so. I just hope that the account continues for as long as possible. No one is offering 3% anywhere in the UK and most accounts are robbing me devaluing my savings in the interests of borrowers who are laughing their heads off at such low mortgage rates. Even if Santander do muck a few up, it will be sorted eventually and I take my hat off to these Spanish invaders to our high street.. As Martin Lewis has always said since the account opened..its a no brainer !0

Re Santander, you don't need to "switch" to get the benefits. It's also £60K, not £40K, for a couple. No one is offering 3% anywhere in the UK...All of which will take some £70.5K for a couple (£30.5K in a sole name)...and not a fee between them.

So basically if I use the Switching service after opening my Santender accoun, it will automatically close my HSBC account?
Am I better off switching all my direct debits myself if I want to keep my old account and my income into my old account as well?

all these accounts you ve highlighted need a regular income going into a current account to get the 3% and they only offer the 3% on a piffling 3k or 5k. How many incomes and direct debits do you think I ve got ? What d/d I have are going to Santander and pay for the management fee.0 -

It's up to you. Other accounts are limited to no more than £5k but pay up to 5%, you dint have to pay an income or salary, simply transfer money between accounts typically by standing order. Associated regular savers pay up to 6% on sums of several thousand pounds per year.
Santander don't pay cashback on all direct debits by any means and there are methods of setting up free direct debits which have been mentioned on these boards many times.0
