10-15 mins to the Beacons??? Probably more like an hour!!!
You'd need a helicopter to do it that quickly!!!

NOOOO!!!!
We're moving to Merthyr and from there it's 10 mins to the Beacons and 20 drive to Cardiff0 -
Depending on the traffic

I live 15 miles out of Cardiff. Outside rush hour I can do the trip in 15-20 mins. During rush hour, it's upwards of an hour.
Same with heading to the Beacons - depends on the traffic, which often depends on the weather!!!
Good luck with the move!!

I work in Merthyr - you'd do well to get to Cardiff in 20 minutes. Maybe the outskirts (Coryton roundabout) outside of rush hours but add another 10-15minutes for the centre.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0

I grew up near the Coryton roundabout. When I first learnt to drive I could get from there to Cardiff city centre in 10 mins flat (outside rush hour). Now there are speed cameras and even more traffic lights there's no chance!!!:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A

Try the usual chain of hotels, Travelodge,Holiday Inn etc. they seem to be quite central. You can also try Hilton, Marriott if they have any deals on as again the hotels are quite central. If its to visit Cardiff only you could stay outside the area and get the train because the station is slap bang in the middle of the city.
I'm sure they have no more problems than other cities have regarding trouble. I've been loads of times and had a great time, especially when the rugby is on because the city comes alive day & night with all the visitors.
p.s. The castle is really lovely0
