the Dr Who exhibition isnt all that great TBH
not worth a trip to cardiff JUST for that IMO !0 -
Black-saturn is the world's unluckiest visitor to Cardiff. Not only were his/her parents mugged twice in broad daylight on a single visit, but s/he was also offered drugs there three times on his/her one and only visit.

We stayed in Cardiff a few weeks ago, and didn't have any bother. Infact I'd definately go again. It's a beautiful city and we found the people to be very friendly and helpfiul.
We stayed in a place called Future Inn, which is located near Cardiff Bay, and was about a 2 minute walk from the Dr Who exhibition. It's a shame you didn't go earlier in the summer, as we got a great deal from them for a family room incl breakfast and free kids tickets for the exhibition, but I think it's finished now. It may be worth ringing them tho, to see if they plan anymore of these promotions. It was well worth the money (£69 for 2 adults, 2 kids).
As for the Dr Who exhibition, it was quite small, but not expensive to get in, and definately worth it if you're a fan. My kids loved it. There's also a brilliant place for kids called Techniquest, a kind of hands on science place. Cardiff Bay had lots of nice restaurants, and the castle was amazing.0 -
The places in the Bay are good for eating - Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Fish, Italian and more! Le Brasserie on Mary Street/Mill Lane is recommended.
If you want somewhere different to stay try Jolyons Boutique Hotel in the Bay. Only a few rooms and Bar Cwtch (Cuddle Bar!) in the basement is one of the best bars I've ever been in. Salt Bar always attracts some 'interesting characters'!0 -
THanks again, guys. It's just me and OH, so the family deal is not needed, but the price of the Future Inn looks decent. Would three days midweek be enough to see everything? Fancied going out to the Borders afterwards for a couple of days. Good plan????0

I live in the Cardiff area and go outregularly, and other than drunken violence (i.e, lads having a cafuffle) I have never seen anything bad happen in Cardiff - it no worse or no better than any other city in the whole of the UK. Balck saturn your amily seem to have been very unlucky, but dont knock it until you've given it a fair chance!
Fen 1 - future inns is out at the bay and a good 30 min walk into the city centre. Are you planning on taking a car? Other hotels centrally located are the Big Sleep and Jurys. Lots of good restaurants about - down the Bay the Dim Sum Bar is fantastic for chinese bites. Turkish restaurant is also meant to be very good but havnt been there myself (Bosphorous) .In town, Poerto's is a good portugueses restaurant. Le Galloise is one of the top restaurants in Cardiff. Another excellent Chinese is the Riverside.
WHat to do in the area - Big Pit mining museum in Blaenavon. Used be an old working mine and they take you down and show you around. A good bit of Welsh Heritage! Portcawl is a nice seaside resort with good fish and chips! Lots of old Roman ruins close by - you couldtake a visit to Caerleon to see the old roman baths and ampitheatre. You can also go out on the bay and in a rib. if you get chance go and see something at the millenium centre too.
Whilst some said avoid cardiif on match days weekends it is also an experience not to be missed! A fabulous day out in itself!
Hope this helps.0 -
If you have a car and the weather is decent,I'd also try the Museum of Welsh Life at St fagans.Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0
