EE phone unlock free?
Bought a used phone on Pay As You Go (Xperia) but its locked to EE. (Sim in old phone is Tesco) Is it possible to get it unlocked for free? Its a few years old. I believe EE charge £8.99 for an unlock so wondered if there are any legit ways to get it done for free?
I just read on uSwitch that EE are scrapping all unlock fees this summer but never gave a date so I suppose I can wait it out and stick with my old phone until then if its not possible.
Thanks

You can either pay EE (last time I checked the procedure was that you will need to go into an EE store to request the unlock if you aren't the original owner).If you’re not an EE, Orange or T-Mobile customer and have bought a device second hand that’s locked to our network, you can go into an EE store. The store will submit your request to get the device unlocked and take your £8.99 payment. It will still take ten working days to unlock your device, including Apple devices.

Your other alternatives are you can find an unlocking shop and pay them to unlock it or depending on the model you can buy an unlock code from eBay.
There is no free option.====0
