flight "voluntary" cancellation insurance

Options
i want to book a flight for september but there is the possibility (not the certainty) that i might have to relocate for work before then. Does anyone know of cancellation insurance I could take that would allow me to get reimbursed for the flight if that happened? Most i've looked up seem to imply I need to be ill or unemployed in order to claim. Thanks

Buy a fully flexible ticket, then you can cancel with no cost.

  • You can't buy cancel for any reason insurance in the UK. You would need to buy a flexible ticket.

Why buy the flight now then?

You can take a chance on the price then or buy a flexible ticket.

Discuss the issue with your employer... if they wish you to relocate at that time, make it clear that the air ticket will be added to your expenses.

Exactly - if your plans are uncertain why book now? Wait till you know. September isn't peak time in most places so what's the reason for needing to book so far in advance?

because the price is very good at the moment, that's the main reason

i found that bravofly can refund 90% by paying some sort of insurance costing about 10% of the fare, i'm considering that at the moment, not sure if there's anything else that is kind of similar

If you touch Bravofly Rumbo/LastMinute you've got more money than sense, and can well afford a flexible ticket. I'd do some basic research. There isn't a barge pole long enough for me to touch them with  Trip Advisor Air Travel forum would provide some light reading. They even changed their group name to lastminutegroup.com presumably to try to cover up some of the years of complaints.

I'd have another look at their 'insurance' as well! You won't get a refund. At best you will get a voucher.

As others have suggested; pass the costs onto your employer.

Alternatively, do you have any frequent flyer miles / points ? They offer fully flexible ticket conditions but only require taxes and fees to be paid (which are largely fully refundable). Only snag is points flights availability, but commonly that's no issue in economy.

They changed their name because they bought last minute and they're the better brand.

Most people who have major issues with these poorly run agents are lacking in basic airline ticket knowledge. If you vaguely know what you're doing it will be fine.

And while a voucher is hardly ideal, but do you have a better option?
