I guess the wrong "LON" airport is understandable but selecting the wrong country, let alone airport, and somehow missing the price more than doubling takes some beating
I hope the OP has triple checked the names and dates associated with the booking
P.S it's OK to admit that you simply found a much cheaper route OP :cool:0 -
OP - now tell the truth lol.

You didnt book the one flight for £570 then realise you could flight somewhere close by for £270 then try it on and cancel the £570 one?
How'd u mix up Salzburg and Munich? Different countries etc. Dissimilar names. Heathrow/Gatwick easy to do. Dates wrong easy to do. Booking to different country entirely - sounds fishy to me.
I've always found BA to be brill. I did it once - booked the wrong month somehow (but destination was the same). I noticed about 3 days after. They were brill and amended it for just the difference in price (which was small). I reckon BA think you're trying it on here (regardless of whether you are or not).0 -
No, you miss understand, it's not that I mixed them up, it's that it's my first holiday and not knowing where I need to fly to I thought only Salzburg as I didn't know Munich was right next door so to speak....0

I guess the test question is...if the Heathrow to Munich were selling for more than the Gatwick to Salzburg, would you still be wanting the change the flights?0
-
If the same cost, yes.... Munich allowed us to go through more of the Alps to where we want to visit. But BA wanted to charge closer to 3 times the online cost which is the only part I take issue with.
I didn't even mind the £120 fee for them to tap a few keys but 3 times the cost is taking the mick.0 -

Can I please just add a couple of points, I'll leave the main question up to the experts.
If you are not familiar with travelling alone, I'm assuming you are young and this is the first holiday without your parents? Then remember the basics, getting the country wrong is a fairly major error, but getting insurance wrong can be much worse. I have young sons and when they first started travelling solo, insurance was always something they were going to do 'later' and only after parental (ie my) pressure did they start including it as something they needed to do as soon as they booked anything.
I don't really know how you managed to decide where to go on holiday, a fairly major decision I would have thought for a first trip, without doing any research at all. Basic research should have shown you where you needed to go , if only to decide how to travel on once in the country. If you are planning to use public transport then make sure you are familiar with some basic language and maps to help you, if hiring a car then definitely make sure you know what you are doing regarding additional insurance etc.
Getting things wrong when booking holidays can be very expensive, and unfortunately you have found this out early on.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This is where I hang my head in shame.... I'm 44 & my wife is 30.... But it's our first holiday so neither have previous experience.
We are using trains to travel around and have made notes of times as well as back up times if we miss a connection
Just got the uk nhs instance card thing but was going to ask a holiday insurer what they offer that this card doesn't to be safe.0 -

There's no need to feel shame, you just made a mistake through inexperience, unfortunately not a cheap one. The key now is twofold -
1. Don't let this bother you so much it spoils your holiday, especially what should be a special first holiday.
2. Don't make any more mistakes, and with that in mind, please get some travel insurance quickly.
The NHS card you refer to is, I assume, the EHIC card. This is important and useful to have, but it is not a substitute for travel insurance. It allows essential medical treatment, either free or at reduced cost (the scope varies by country), but does not cover things like medical repatriation, mountain rescue etc. Insurance also covers things beyond healthcare, such as lost/stolen belongings, delay and cancellation. If you needed to cancel your holiday for unforeseen medical reasons, without insurance you would lose most of the £570 you have paid as well. Once the insurance is in place, you would be covered for cancellation in a variety of scenarios (of course not all).
