What to do with driveway dips?

    Lifting the whole lot and redoing the base will give the best results but it will be expensive. in the first picture this looks like maybe a car parked on it could have caused the dips (this happened to mine in a previous house). It also looks like drainage is an issue, maybe clay soil below? If this is the case you really need a small slope away from the house to stop pooling. The other two pictures suggest settling and maybe just lifting those areas and adding more sand would be OK.
    For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.

    It's not a particularly skilled job, so if you've a few days free, you could do it yourself.

    As already said, you can patch it up by pulling up the affected areas and using some sand.
  • I think I'll wait and see what this local block paving guy says tonight, but maybe it isn't too difficult. I could certainly try a few of the smaller spots myself and see how I get on.

    The paving expert website seems to suggest any dips lower than 20mm will require the sub-base be regraded - it doesn't go into too much detail on this but I assume this means topping it up just enough so the laying course isn't too deep?
