We had a similar issue, refused to pay it as it wasnt clear in the online advert and it was dropped the second we mentioned the wors 'trading' and 'standards.'

They sell tens of thousands of used cars a year and if 50% of people pay the admin fee they will make millions.
  • I've just encountered exactly the same issue at a certain motorcycle dealership in Preston. They tried sticking on nearly forty quid when I was just about to sign on the dotted line, no mention of it anywhere at the dealership or the web site. I was actually pretty incensed and was about walk out just because of the principle, the fee soon got cancelled. How does this promote trust between you as a purchaser and the seller? How less likely is it going to be that I don't walk back through their door again- very in my case. It's a poor show when they have to resort to these kind of sales tactics. I know it's not a lot of money but if every other person coughs up it all adds up.

I would phone the dealership and ask to speak to the dealer priciple and state that you want the car and not going to py adin stuff

If a dealership buys a car they but th debt oustanding on the car hence any car is hpi,d as said its to ptrotect them ? Foxy stoat said buy privately ??? Its better to buy from a garage as you have consumer rights laws behind you then ? sales of goods act etc where butin privately yo have no redress if the car packs up

I in near 35 years in car sales have never heard of this admin/hpi charge to the customer ??
