HP Wireless printer connection issue
Comments
-
When I click on the wireless icon in the notification area, it's connected to the house wifi - i can see the printer as a separate item as well as next door etc.
If I disconnect from 'house' I can then connect the PC to the printer directly, but cant (can I?) connect to both at the same time
This sounds like the printer has a print server or similar exposed as a WiFi access point ... you do NOT want to be connecting to this. The printer should be connected to the house WiFi, as should the PC.0 -
Sorry, I printed out al the info but it is with the printer ... and I'm notMay I refer my learned friend to:

It prints fine when it's awake, but once it goes to sleep, we need to wake it up to make it work.0 -
Hmm. Well in my best Dragon's Den impersonation ... For that reason, I'm out.
Sorry - no idea. Are you sure it's the printer which goes idle? Does the printer in Devices and Printers in Windows show as idle/offline?0 -

Will go tomorrow and look ....
So...
I removed all evidence of HP
First in CCleaner and then checked in Control Panel
Then ran CCleaner cleaning and then registry clean
Then rebooted
Then 'added a printer' in Control Panel and the printer had gone to sleep again
Woke it up and then CP found it fine, installed it and it worked.
:T
I left quickly before any problems reoccurred!!

^^^ It's connected wirelessly, it's in the title but question: -
Is it the printer that goes to sleep or the PC?
When the problem occurs, does the wireless light (assuming you have one) on the printer go out or stay on?
Can you detect the wireless printer with your PC as you would when searching for your router for example.
OK, that's 3 questions!
No, the title says that it's a wireless printer, which can be used wirelessly or by USB, hence my question. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Update -

Just back home and called at D's on the way.
We have concluded that it is the printer that is somehow going to sleep and losing the connection.
Just pressing the power button wakes it up, but doesn't re-establish connection.
Turning it of completely and then back on again, does connect.
Can we update the printer software somehow???
All the 'auto-off' options are set to 'off'.
