HP Wireless printer connection issue

DD1 has an HP Deskjet 3520 printer
It used to work fine, but recently it has become problematic.
Once it has gone to 'sleep/stand-by' it won't wake up again without pressing the power button on the front!
I have removed it and all the HP stuff as well, then reinstalled but still the problem persists.
Has anyone any bright ideas??

^^^ It's connected wirelessly, it's in the title but question: -
Is it the printer that goes to sleep or the PC?
When the problem occurs, does the wireless light (assuming you have one) on the printer go out or stay on?
Can you detect the wireless printer with your PC as you would when searching for your router for example.
OK, that's 3 questions!0 -

I've never seen it on, even when printing wirelessly (spelchequer doesn't like that word!)When the problem occurs, does the wireless light (assuming you have one) on the printer go out or stay on?
Yes, I tried that, but needed to disconnect from the house wi-fi to connect to the printer, which wasn't at all ideal. Can you detect the wireless printer with your PC as you would when searching for your router for example.0 -
If you scroll through the screens on the printer and select the Wireless option, does it show it as having proper IP, subnet etc. details?
This happened with my HP printer recently (different model) - it lost all of it's wifi settings. The only way I could get things restored was to delete all instances of the printer on my PC, run the HP utility, use the Add Printer option then follow the process. All is now OK.0 -
Well, it has some numbers which seem to be ... erm numbers! If you scroll through the screens on the printer and select the Wireless option, does it show it as having proper IP, subnet etc. details?
I did all this - it works initially, but then once it's asleep, you have to manually wake it up before it will work again! The only way I could get things restored was to delete all instances of the printer on my PC, run the HP utility, use the Add Printer option then follow the process. All is now OK.

Have you update the drivers lately? Or updated your pc/laptop. I find out if a windows update hasn't been installed on my laptop the printer wont work until I install it.0

Laptop is set to auto on Win Update
Software was downloaded from HP site last week.0 -
Not sure what you mean about having to disconnect from the house Wi-Fi. If you have a wireless card in the laptop and a wireless card in the printer, click on Network settings in the laptop and do a scan/search you should find all the available wireless (including your neighbours)!Yes, I tried that, but needed to disconnect from the house wi-fi to connect to the printer, which wasn't at all ideal.
Can you get into printer settings and see what turns off when in sleep mode.0 -

This is a valid question ... it may not necessarily be the printer that is going into standby, it could be Windows printer connection.
Given the replies from OP so far, I suspect analysing this issue may be beyond his/her current knowledge.
OP - do you have a tech-savvy friend or family member who could help?0 -
When I click on the wireless icon in the notification area, it's connected to the house wifi - i can see the printer as a separate item as well as next door etc.Not sure what you mean about having to disconnect from the house Wi-Fi.
If I disconnect from 'house' I can then connect the PC to the printer directly, but cant (can I?) connect to both at the same time
Maybe, it's DD's house and I'm not there! Can you get into printer settings and see what turns off when in sleep mode.
I am deeply offended by your comments.Given the replies from OP so far, I suspect analysing this issue may be beyond his/her current knowledge.

I fitted a new hard drive in the laptop, last year and installed W7 and then set up the printer to work correctly - how 'tech savvy do you want me to be?
