Rear Leaking Shock Absorber Help
Can anyone please give me some advice .
In the last week or so whilst driving I felt a banging noise when going
over speed bumps coming from the back of the car , I had a look and the right side rear shocker absorber is leaking oil ( small deposits on the drive in the last 48hr).
Any idea how much it will cost and if it is worth doing as it is a 2003 Ford Fusion Diesel with 145,000 miles on the clock .
I am in Birmingham ( can anyone recommend a resonable garage ) ,
Thanks

Birmingham is a big place. Replace both shocks...
From £20 each + fitting..Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Thanks for the reply , I am in Yardley .
I was told to avoid Halfords and the like and go to a smaller independant . The car is starting to cost me money every month but I cannot afford to get another one until the summer.0 -
local independent
tell him you want just the one budget shocker fitting0 -
£20 for each shock and a couple of £ for a spanner and do it yourself?
I would only fit springs and shocks in pairs.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Should be able to get both sides done for £150.0

I certainly wouldn't change a car just because the shocks need doing. It's standard maintenance requirement over time and any car can need them doing.I was told to avoid Halfords and the like and go to a smaller independant . Just done mine on a Golf, easy to do yourself and cost was £50 for the pair.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -

Its not a DIY job separating a shocker from its spring. The power in a compressed spring is scary..Garage job I think unless its not surrounded by a coil spring. Better to get the pair on the same axle done together0 -
Depends on the car. Rear shocks and springs are often separate. On both Golf & Passat they can be replaced without touching the springs.sacsquacco wrote: »Its not a DIY job separating a shocker from its spring. The power in a compressed spring is scary..Garage job I think unless its not surrounded by a coil spring. The banging might not even be the shocker. It could be a worn bush on a wishbone. A shock absorber that is seeping a little bit of oil can still function.0
