O2 Refresh - Contract Clarity

Options
Hi All,

I have read the mse section about getting a cheap iphone handset as part of O2 Refresh Contract.

I am an existing O2 customer and am looking for a bit of clarity as to how the contract works.

1) Do I have to pay the £480 upfront to be able to cancel the airtime contract?

2) Can I cancel the airtime contract and continue to pay O2 £20 per month as part of theat contract agreement.

I have spoken with O2 and they have said I can only cancel the airtime contract once the phone has been paid in full £480.

I also noted that the original article is from Februrary and therefore O2 may have changed details since then, for example there is a £30 up front fee.

Any help would be great!

Thanks
Euan

Hi, I've done one of these O2 Refresh deals to get an S6.

You can cancel the airtime without penalty if you pay in full the device part of the agreement. You can't cancel the airtime and keep the device plan.
You can cancel within the cooling off period and pay off the device and keep it and you won't have to pay the airtime for the whole month.

I first inserted the sim and called O2 for free to pay off the device. I did this as the sim needed to be activated to request the free unlock. The following day, after getting the unlock code, I called them to say I wanted to cancel the airtime as I couldn't get a 4G signal on O2 in my area. Just a random excuse.

I suggest that you don't pay off the device and cancel the airtime at the same time as that might confuse their system and you might get charged, wrongly, for the whole 24 months of airtime. Happened to some people and it takes time to be sorted out.
First pay off the device, then the following day cancel. You'll have to pay just for the couple of days your sim is active for. on top of the device cost.

If you don't care about unlocking the phone (you said you're on O2 already), then you might be able to cancel without even activating the sim.
