O/S Daily Thread for Sunday 17th April 2016

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

Morning all

It's supposed to be dry here today so I have washing out on the line, I've done 6 loads to help out DD who was getting overwhelmed.

Hubby and I have a cuppa, I got up just after 5 as I'd been awake for a while by then.

I taught DGD5 how to play dominos yesterday, she got very good at them very quickly.

I re-covered my dining chairs yesterday after the DGD went home the seats were looking very grubby, the original fabric was cream and pink. We've had the chairs 12 years and they were 2nd hand when we got them. The chairs now have new navy fabric on the seats and look very smart.

I've started another blanket, I'm doing one made up of small squares but it's a bit fiddly for late in the evening, so I've started one in chunky variegated yarn.

I think I will declutter the spare room today, we've been offered some bunk beds in the next couple of months so we'll be getting rid of the big double bed. The wardrobe has gradually filled up with 'stuff' so I'll clear it out today.

Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

• Good morning all,

Thank you Hester for starting us off. It is a lovely morning here, although we have had a frost. The washing machine is on so hopefully the washing will dry outside.

We have a more normal week to come, after having attended the hospital every morning for about 3 hours, they don't want to see Himself until Friday. He has done really well, has lost 3 and a half stone in fluid and is still losing (he has to weigh himself each morning in case he starts to accumulate fluid again)

It will be so good not to have to go out early each morning.

Jackie I am so sorry your Brother is in hospital again, what a dreadful time he is having, I know you must be so worried about him.

Judi sending you a hug, I hope once your Mum's funeral has taken place you will feel a little more settled. The difficulty is your whole daily routine has changed now, hasn't it because no visits to the home?

Elona your new home sounds as though it will be amazing. How exciting to be able to start a fresh with new decor and some new furnishings. No doubt the girls have acquired a few of the furnishings from your old house. Himself says when we used to go round to DD2s house, it was like stepping into our home because I had given her so much of our things.

Dumpling I hope you are OK

Hester I assume you are not holding your breath regarding a reply to your email from SS. They should be ashamed of themselves

Sending hugs to all in need or just want one, and I hope to post more often now

Have a great day

Morning everyone - thanks for the thread HH.

This morning I'm taking Mum to H*mebase for a new loo seat, the lid has sheared off the one she has. The 'care and repair' service will fit it for her. After that I'll head up the road to my own wee nest. OH has a few days off so he'll be around too.

There'll be a little bit of shopping to be done on the way and then some washing when I get there. Hopefully I'll get it hanging out today.

JackieO - I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, I feel for you bring so far away.

TA - I don't often feel like 'a good daughter', I get exasperated sometimes. I'm sure she gets deafer the more difficult she wants to be! Luckily those moments pass quickly and I 'swallow' them. She has great qualities and at 88 years can be allowed her difficult moments.

Candlelight - it's really good to hear about your OH is improving. It's been a long haul for you both.

The sun may shine here so I want to get out and enjoy it.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, beautiful blue sky, sunshine and a frost - cold but clear and bright.

Dinner last night was the prawns in black bean sauce, egg and veg fried rice, veg noodles, spare ribs and pancake rolls, ice cream or treats from the tins for those that wanted some. Lunch today will be roast chicken and all the trimmings.

DH and myself visited ill person in hospital, they are very poorly but not as bad as DH and myself feared, but we are unable to see how they can be released to go home as the problem they were admitted for isn't any better and there's also no-one at home to assist with care and the cottage they live in is definitely not suitable for them being so poorly, so DH and myself are hoping they will be kept in hospital so the docs and nurses can keep an eye on them and administer the drugs and care as the need changes. Now we've been once I think we may go again, we'll see how things go.

DH will be going this morning to collect his work van ready for tomorrow as he has a stupid early start. Once he's done that we're going to the big DIY store to buy some seed potatoes and runner bean plants to get started in the greenhouse - I left it late last year and we didn't do very well with the potatoes and I had to buy dwarf beans not runners and they were useless, normally runner beans grow really well and I'm able to pick loads to freeze so I can enjoy them later in the year when they're out of season.

Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

Keep safe and well x

WEIGHTLOSS SINCE JUNE 2009 - 5 ST 2LB
• Morning all. Blue sky and sun for us again. A glorious start but oh so cold! There's a thick frost everywhere.

Nice to read that your DH is progressing well CANDLELIGHT. It's a slow battle but he seems to be winning. JACKIE sorry about Davey, it's a worry for you being so far away.

Roast chicken for lunch, all the trimmings for Mr TA, just the veg for me! I am plodding on with the BS diet but, sadly, the weight isn't coming off as quickly as I had hoped. I think my metabolism is at a standstill due to my very advancing years. Is that a fact or am I just using it as an excuse? I know I need to exercise more so maybe that would help. Once the weather is warmer we hope to resume our flat walking. Hills are out with my dodgy hip and Mr TA's dodgy knees and the trouble is we are faced with hills both up and down the minute we leave our front door!! What fun getting old!

Not much planned for today but I really must sort the front garden out. It gets so little sun it's always cold out there and I keep postponing the job! Also the ironing basket is still beckoning. Just one wash load to do today so that will get pegged out shortly.

Have a nice day and (((HUGS))) to all in need. Are you ok POLLYANNA you've been MIA for a while? Take care all xx

Morning everyone,

Bright and sunny here but there has been a hard frost.

Will take Mum a cuppa in bed soon, picked her up after lunch yesterday and we popped into the local hospital on way back to see her friend. It's three weeks since I last saw her and am afraid there has been some deterioration, she hardly said anything and seemed to be concentrating hard on just moving stuff on her table. I remember my darling Dad getting like that when he had been in hospital for a while :(
Once things warm up a bit we intend on doing a bit in the garden and if Mum feels up to it will take the dogs out for a walk. Have a chicken for lunch and will do loads of veg with it, can offer Mum a baked pot to go with as she's not a huge fan of roasties anyway.
Jackie sorry to hear your brother is poorly, please look after yourself.
Candlelight hopefully a more normal week will do both you and Mr C good.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Good morning
JackieO I am sorry to hear that your brother is so poorly, must be so worrying for you.
Love to those who could do with a bit of a boost.
Here it is cold but bright with a good breeze so washing is on the line, today I need to redo the bathroom and the rest of the day is my own. Yesterday I finished a toddler cardigan, a pretty little thing with knitted lace round the edges and now am halfway up the back of a different one. I was doing this and happily watching a film on TV, until my DS who was overnighting with friends came in and changed to some horrid comedy that I find unfunny. Sadly, it is actually his television so I don't feel justified in being cross.
Last night was OH cooking so they had mahoosive pork chops, some kind of dish with peppers (which I cannot have) and salad, plus a garlicky flat bread. I had a piece of salmon and some salad. Tonight I am cooking roast pork, not my fave but I like the veg, other thsn parsnips, roasties, roast parsnips for them, lovely green veg. And must get some sausagemeat out for stuffing.
Then should be working at home for a few days as have long reports to write. I concentrate better away from the office and fewer interruptions.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

JackieO - Sorry to hear that Davie is unwell, pleased to hear that people are keeping you up to date.
HH - Well done on the chairs.
Good to hear from you MM.
Good to hear Mr candlelight is making good progress, hope it continues.

After yesterday's glorious sunshine (apart from the snow shower in the afternoon), we are back to overcast skies and drizzle. Still, the washing all dried and the grass was cut.

DD came over and we went to friends for dinner, very nice too. I'm going to drip DD off at work this morning then take her balcony planters to her flat. I've also got some Ike@ light fittings to pick up and take back as they are too big for her place.

Apart from that not much happening, back to work tomorrow, it seems to have been a long 2 weeks off. Take care and enjoy Sunday. XX

Morning :hello:

JackieO I'm sorry your brother is back in hospital, thinking of you xx

The house is even worse, mr tru made a start on the kitchen while still halfway through both the bathroom and the hall stairs and landing. He keeps starting on a new room without finishing the previous one, the whole house is upside down. He's back to work tomorrow, I'm furious about that because of the chaos and mess he'll be leaving but on the other hand I'll be very glad to see the back of him.

There's stuff piled in the hall again so I haven't been able to clean the floor, I'm determined to get it cleared today though. I'll also be throwing a lot of things away, I'm sat here staring at the piles of stuff on the worktops and wondering why we still have some of it when we haven't used it for ages. Binliners and recycling bins are standing by :D
