Agree with the OP re this being an issue - HMRC now charge fees that precisely mirror the costs for each different card type (they check the BIN for the card and quote the fee), for most cards they are far cheaper than the DVLA cost here. I must say I'm surprised the DVLA have stuck to their £2.50 flat fee given what other Gov't departments are doing.

Sure you can use a debit card for no fee, but better to use a credit card if you're trying to hit a spend target for credit card benefits (e.g. hotel voucher, etc.) if you're still deriving benefit post fee.

Correct on all points. Credit card fee charging by the DVLA is just another example of the parasitic nature of a bum organisation.

Just renewed my vehicle tax and it appears the DVLA have now abandoned the £2.50 charge for "personal" credit cards. Checking past news reports, I think this may have changed back in January 2018. However, there is still a £2.50 charge for "corporate" credit cards.

16-04-2016 - i thought car tax had been abandoned seeing as every car in my village has tax discs all showing at least a year out of date:eek:

The "paper" tax disc was abolished in October 2014. (Or maybe that's the joke? ;)
