Switching from dual fuel to separate suppliers

Well the latest SP tariff saves me all of £3 for the year and they're being sneaky by lowering gas and increasing electricity prices

Looking around and GB Energy will save me £97 per year (£70 saving on the standing charge) but if I separate my suppliers, ZOG Energy will save me a further £35 on my gas.

Having never switched before, am I asking for trouble if I choose separate suppliers in order to save that extra bit?

Thanks

Go for it. Dual fuel discounts are pretty derisory these days. I have had no problems. For me the cheapest dual fuel is 5% dearer than separate suppliers. Zog are excellent although their CS is slowing down these days, now it often takes them 2 hours to reply to an e-mail ! ;)

Nope no problem as long as you remember usually different dates to pay and enter meter readings .

I have been with Zog and GB for nearly 5 months and both have been fine so far. If you want accurate bills - that is bills based on actual meter readings - then you need to remember to provide Zog with a meter reading on the last day of the month, and GB a meter reading on the monthly date of your switch. Zog's bill takes about a week, GB about 3 days.

Finally, note that GB will take the first monthly DD 3 weeks after application to switch, and Zog about 2 weeks after the transfer goes through.

No. Do it. Just do it. If it saves you £132 a year, do it. Have to do what it takes to save.

It used to be cheaper to split them up, then it became cheaper to bundle them to get the discount and now it's become cheaper to split them up again.

Did I say to just do it?

Presumably the OP will be opting to pay monthly by DD, so payments should be collected automatically :)
(although OP does need to ensure sufficient funds are available in their account to pay such DD collections which may well be on different dates)

I usually give my meter readings on the last day of every month.
That suits Zog as that means I get an accurate statement every month (but their estimates are not far out if I happen to forget or am a little late one month)

Not sure billing/statement cycle of GB, but if OP gives readings every month on whatever day, then hopefully their estimates won't be too far out if they account to another day.

as I said above, GB's billing cycle is based on a calendar month from the transfer of supply date. My transfer went through on the 10th so I am billed from the 10th to the following 9th. GB asks for a meter reading about a week before it is needed which can catch people out.

Switching can appear daunting and, occasionally, things can go wrong. A few 'hot tips':

    1. Check your meter serial numbers agree with those given in the Welcome E-Mails. I look at the actual meters.

    2. Provide the gaining supplier with an actual meter reading on the transfer date. There is no need to give this to your old supplier.

    3. Do not stop any DD payments until you know that the transfers have gone through. Personally, I wait for the Final Bill. You will get any overpayments back.

    4. Check that the closing reading/s on your Final Bill agree with the opening reading/s on your new statements. These MAY not be the same reading/s as you provided as all transfer readings go to a 3rd party for checking ( Yes, some people do lie if it is to their advantage)

The new suppliers will manage all aspects of the switch/es. Seventeen days from application is the target but they are allowed 35 days.

Final Billing can take up to 6 weeks.

Indeed, I would always endeavour to supply a reading if the supplier asks for one too :)

I've had this with Zog when, for example, transferring to a new tariff with them. This allows each 'contract' to be accurately calculated.

I also used to get requests from iSupply at odd times, typically 2 weeks before they were to create a new statement. For some reason they issue statements quarterly up to and including the first day of the appropriate month.
So, having provided a reading when they requested (mid month) they also got a reading on the last day of the month ... and then they estimate the reading for the first day of the following month ... which oddly includes 1/10ths of a unit.

I wouldn't mind, but their 'contract' with me ends on the last day of a month, so their final statement of the year to finalise the 'contract' uses the last day of the month reading I give anyway.

Switched to e.on for electricity & Zog for gas earlier this year, from a good dual fuel deal with EDF. Had no prolems at all, and both e.on & Zog were very efficient dealing with the transfer.
Saving estimated to be over £70 a year compared to the very competive EDF tariff.

Already had final bill from EDF and account closed. No problem.

Both e.on & Zog are very efficient dealing with meter readings each month and produce an updated account very promptly.

    Very glad we switched.
