Oh yes I had that with Handelsbanken London.
Never had such snobbery in all my life, because I didnt work for a "good" place, and speak with a common accent, they are not interested.
First thing out of their snobby mouth was "There is a £25 fee, do you want to proceed", never even asked my salary.

Well if you had read through this thread first on here you have saved yourself the time.
The only place I know that banks with them is an old fashioned country estate - you know the 500+ acres, full time staff, estate cottages and farmland plus country mansion all of which probably cost £1m/year in maintenance alone.

The sort of international operating customers where £25/month is just an accounting error.

It was years ago, but they did not ask my salary, they just assumed because I sounded common I did not earn a lot, he asked where I worked, snobbery I cannot stand. What if someone like Lord Sugar phoned up?:D

The £25 was for all customers, regardless of salary, but each branch manager decides. How dare they make such an assumption. It really got by back up, and I continue to tell anyone who will listen not go bank with them because they are snobs.

Times have changed, and I would not accept an account if they gave it to me on a plate. I wanted a "small/high class" bank with people who were friendly and did not judge. That is not Handlesbanken. I can't speak for other branches of course, only the London ones.

They should have taken me as a customer, I work somewhere "good" now, and I would have recommended them to all my London colleagues. Oh well!!!!!

the feeling is probably mutual, they seem to want old money not new money.

I agree, CB are not set up for personal banking anymore. I had an account for 18 years and they mucked me about with a failed outwards payment last year that took 5 months to sort out- and that was only once the ombudsman got involved. I switched after that, thank goodness.
