Reading SMS and emails from UK on an iphone in Spain - cost?

My sister is currently on holiday in Spain. She has her iphone (Vodafone) with her and uses it to keep in touch by text and email (routed to her iphone.) I should like to send her some images of a project we are working on together. I have an EE (Orange) android mobile and Virgin media for email on my pc.
She tells me there is a problem receiving .pdfs so my photos would have to be sent as SMS/MMS images or email attachments for her to pick up on her iphone.
I don't want her to have to spend a lot of money opening and viewing the images, especially if they are liable to auto download. I don't know how it works with iphones and Vodafone overseas. Anyone able to advise?
