To check whether it is a fault with your internal phone wiring, try disconnecting the face plate from the BT master socket, and connecting a single microfilter (if required) and cable from the test socket to the router. Then use an Ethernet cable to connect the router to the PC. If you still have problems, try using a different computer, different microfilter, different cables, etc.

If all that fails, I'd phone your ISP and get them to assist.0 -

I have a similar problem.
Using newish Lenova Yogi Pro laptop, using Windows 10, IE11, and Edge, ISP PlusNet.
Cookies and history regularly cleared, router has been re-set dozens of times, other devices fewer problems using net than mine.
Because of regular time-out's, I took the laptop to Know How techies at PC World, and it worked fine - no problem! Bought it home, and several times a week seeing the message 'unable to connect ...'
I wondered whether we needed a new router, and keep thinking I will phone PlusNet. The problems only seemed to start when I renewed the ISP contract a couple of months ago.
Good luck, hope the problem is soon resolved.0 -
I am having similar problems and I am also a Plusnet customer. Did you register with Plusnet when you started with them, can you access the Plusnet website? Check the "Member Centre" and Support pages, ask a question, report the problems and they will talk you through it online. If you think that your internet is likely to dropout during this, look up the documents they sent you at start and use the freephone number. It may take a while, be prepared to hold in a queue, but you will be able to talk to someone with a clear English (Yorkshire) accent who can report your problem and investigate.
I am currently waiting for an engineer visit to sort out my own problem, after they found a problem with my broadband supply. Only one dropout today, which is less than normal this week!
Just one encouraging thought: I have a friend who has recently left BT Openreach. He tells me that at least 70% of UK exchanges and older cabinets, are subject to so many problems of age and wear, that they should be replaced and large parts of the system renewed. BT will not carry out this work due to cost, although they do feel that spending millions on TV ads is OK.
Comments, BT?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Thank you robisere, interesting comments.
I will definitely phone PlusNet before weekend and see what they say. I keep putting it off as it usually involves a long phone call
I would say our BT fibre cabinet is about 2 years old, we did wonder whether the router could be faulty.
It will be interesting to hear what PlusNet have to say.0
